I have a HKS BOV brand new and I bought it a couple of months ago and had it laying around while I pieced together my turbo kit and today I took it out and notice that one of the tip of the vacuum filter broke off when I was moving stuff around in my storage room. I know a couple of people who aren't using a filter but they didn't seem like a valid source since they like to "ghetto rig" stuff and half ass stuff. So is it necessary for one?

Not necessary. I haven't been running one for the last 10k miles (@ install) including several 10 hr road trips. No problems for me. But if you think it's ghetto, then I guess you answered your own question.

I didn't mean I thought it was ghetto...just meant I didn't think they were reliable enough to take their word. Seeing that they sometimes don't know what they are doing or know what they are talking about. I just want to see if it was necessary to have one.
