So Im waiting on my bonus check from the military to come in, should be here in about a month, and Im planning on picking up a Dezod turbo kit. I have heard nothing but good things about the company, its customer service and the products it sells. Also they hook us military people up, so their a winner in my book. I have an 08 tC 5MT. The kit I plan on purchasing is as follows;
Dezod S1 Turbo
Comes with:
Dezod T3/T04 Turbo
Stainless Steel Manifold
38mm TIAL wastegate w/.6 BAR spring 8.7psi
Mandrel bent charge piping with AEM dry flow filtered intake
FFC Turbo install kit
2.5 Stainless Steel Downpipe w/ S-Pipe
HKS SSQV BOV
550cc Injectors
Stainless oil lines and pan fittings
FFC large bar front mount intercooler
T bolts and couplers
Plug and play AEM FIC
The Options I want to get are
Stainless jet hot coating on all of the charge pipes and manifold
ACT street clutch upgrade
The Ball Bearing upgrade
.63 Turbine A/R
And the legal beagle catted & recirculated dump tube.
Some questions I have are;
Will having the cat and recicrulated dump tube negatively effect my performance? The only reason why I chose this option is to pass emissions here in DE. Although they just hook the computer to your diagnosics and dont do the whole tube on the exaust anymore. Will the wastegate spring at .6 BAR let me go only to 8.7 psi? My goal is to be at 10psi. Also will I be able to run 10psi on a stock engine with no issues?
This car is my daily driver and Im really only interested in auto x. The goal is to be at 300whp and not hurt my engine. Any help or suggestions would be great, I appreciate it.

I just went turbo last week but have been researching turbos since they were first available for the tC's (back in the ScionSpeed days).
Having a cat and recirculated dump will have some negative effect on your performance. The cat slows down airflow out your exhaust which makes the engine work harder to get rid of it. The dump does the same thing with adding even more exhaust to get rid of. It sounds bad, but you will only loose a couple of horsepower and you will be helping to save the Earth. haha
The .6 bar spring is fine to run. If you want to up the boost to 10psi, you can either get a heavier spring from the wastegate company or get a boost controller. With the boost controller, you can select the amount of boost you want to run down to .6 bar.
You SHOULD be fine running 10psi on a stock engine, but the more boost you force into the engine, the more stress is put on it. 12-15psi is about the limit of the stock engine depending on how much your turbo flows so that line won't be too far off. Granted, people have run that much boost with no problems, but I have heard a few horror stories. You just need to keep track of everything going on in your engine and and be dilligent on maintenance.
My goal is ultimately 320 horsepower. The stock engine good up to about 350 so the boost will go up slowly as I add more supporting mods. Be sure to do your research and understand everything going on under your car's hood before you start adding more boost.
As far as autocrossing, the T3/4 turbo will be a little laggy and take a little longer to spool than a smaller turbo. This won't help you on small, tight autocross courses.
However, you will really notice the turbo on the highway when you go to pass someone. Like I said, I have had mine on for less than a week, but every time I hear the blow-off valve open up, I get a childish grin on my face.

Thanks for your help and info. I was going to see if I could get the garrett GT3076R Ball bearing instead and pay a little more. Would that turbo be better for auto x? If not any suggestions? I was also going to be picking up a lightweight flywheel to help eliminate the lag.

10PSI with the dezod turbo should be ok. Make sure you get it tuned though!

thanks. would you recommend a garrett or the t3/4?

I would recommend a Garret or Innovative turbo over the Dezod Spec one (Which is a Turbonetics). The T3/T4 is just the size of the gaskets and bolt patterns...
I priced it out using the Signature kit instead of the S1 Kit... gets kinda pricey.

Innovative T3/T4 50 Trim .48 AR Non BB (Don't need Ball bearing turbo)
8.7 PSI Spring
Silver Wastegate
Add on AEM F/IC PnP
Sterling Silver 1300 Jet Hot coating
Legal Beagle - Catted & Recirc Dump
ACT Street Clutch
For Years: 2007+
Price came out to $5245.
The Innovative turbo is a Garret made turbo... 50 trim isn't too big, .48 A/R is smaller so it'll spool faster, yet at 10PSI you should be above 300 WHP.

Thanks for your suggestion, and I appreciate you spec'ing one out for me. Thats something I didnt know, and probably will be what choose to go with. Why no ball bearing upgrade though? Doesn't it help decrease spool time/improve the reliability of the tubo/and reduce the amount of oil used by the turbo? I just want to make sure that when I do this it is done right the first time and I wont regret anything. Id rather spend more money getting something that will last and give me the best performance than save a few bucks and just settle.

These aren't really big turbos anyway and a BB upgrade really won't cause much change in spooling. If you switch to synthetic oil too, that won't matter.

WHAT!!!! no royal purple recommendations? :Banane03: Eh I still run it anyway, maybe it will help in the long run.
I was doing some research and I probably wont do the ball bearing upgrade and I like the setup you recommended. Thats probably what I will go with. Now I just have to decide the coating on the charge pipes/manifold. Id like the sterling silver because it would look great under the hood although someone said something about melting or discoloration? Any weight to that accusation?

Jet Hot coating will not last forever. It will come off... I don't know how long it would take though.

alright so it turns out that ill be getting more than i expected. id like to get the garrett GT3076R BB. It has a 56 trim i believe and is still a 48 A/R for the quick spool. they said hp between 310-525. i just wanted something that i would be able to expand on if i wanted to. also i planned on building the engine with new low compression pistons (8.8:1 compression ratio), rods, and a head gasket this winter. also i was planning on getting the aem air fuel gauge with the boost controller and have it set for 8.5psi and then 10psi just so im not killing my engine with 10psi all the time. also the wastegate spring i want is the 10.15 psi.

Sounds awesome. I wish I could get boosted but thats out a ways. Good luck with the build.:Banane03:

Actually, you should get the 8.5 spring, then use your boost controller to set it at 10 for when you want more power. That way, if something happens to your boost controller, your wastegate will "default" to the safer 8.5psi.

heres just a suggestion but the turbotoyotas kit is only about 3500 with everything mentioned above....i beleive its their simple kit that they just releasesd....only thing is they dont have a recirculated dump but if you wanted you could have him make you a dump tube....just a thought he is over on scionlife if you get a chance go and read about his new kit all 32 pages of it and that might make you change your mind.....dezod is feeeling the pressure a lil bit

the turbotoyotas kit makes awesome power on low boost - it's a great kit.
I personally think the dezod kit looks ugly.

Thanks for the ideas. Im planning on doing the turbo sometime this spring, as soon as the check comes in. In the winter when im on active duty orders Ill be picking up some pistons, rods, and a high performance oil pump. The only thing with turboed toyotas is they dont do a military discount. If they did Id be looking at them. If I have the chance to save 500 or so that would be great.
