This always gets interesting, and makes for useful info, as well as suggestions to point some new ppl to the audio game, in a good direction!
So lets hear it, what are you running, what are your dreams, what do you hate, anything and everything about audio!

I will start it off....

I think everyone knows what I'm runnin already, but if you do not, I will share again.

Subs: Soundstream Reference Series 10s (3)
Amp(s): Soundsteam picasso 2000D
HU: Pioneer flipout( I can never remember the model #)
All 0ga wire ran from front to back(both + and -). Kinetik 1400 powercell under the hood. 2 kinetik 800s in the back with the amp. Custom built ported enclosure tuned to around 40hz I think( built by Michael Hughes himself, the audiophiles will know the name)

Dang, sounds like a tough setup you got there!! Iraggi alt huh....I wanted one pretty bad, till he quoted me for one, then I quickly changed my mind. I have a 150amp laying around, that i just need to put on the A, Im just to lazy!

FYI....I LOOOOVE the kicker wire, what other wire can you tie a damn knot in at the 0ga level??

yeah i picked up the alternator for 275 shipped , had a guy getting rid of his car and was parting it out. i too almost shit myself when he quoted me on them LOL.

Ya I think my quote was in the 300-400 range for a 200A! Lol, that is just nuts to me. I had a HO alt built for my jeep(before the A) and it cost me $150 for a 200+ amp alt! It was not built by Irragi, but still! He is PROUD of his work!

Lol, yes warranties are a BIG +!! Especially once you start really trying to push thing, like running amplifiers under their recommended ohm load, or giving a 500w RMS sub well over 1k, and so on. Because just like you said, stuff will break!

Man, I haven't really thought about what I have in a long time. Here goes nothing......

Pioneer Aviz Z-1
Pioneer 5 1/4" separates (2 Pair)
Pioneer Premier Flush Mount Dome Tweeters (2 Pair)
Pioneer 600w 4 channel amp
Pioneer D Class 1000w amps (4)
Pioneer 12" Subwoofers (4) *the ones that the Championship Series replaced*
Bass Blockers on tweeters (4)
Power Acoustic 9.5" Headrest T.V.s
Harmon & Kardon Half Din DVD player
13" overhead T.V. (Can't remember the brand)
Tsunami 2 Farad Capacitors (2)
Oddessy Deep Cycle Battery
Upgraded Alternator (180 Amps done by a local alt. shop)
Custom sealed box that sits flush and does not go past the top of the rear seats.
All amps are suspended on pegs so they kinda float.

Best meter reading.....150.9db

Sorry I don't have any of the model numbers but I've had this setup for three years now and have just completely forgotten what they are. I'm looking to change though, but I want to make sure that it's what I want because it's gonna be a COMPLETE renovation.

OK My system is nothing to write home about. Dual stuff, for now. But I have been Jones'n for a deeper, warmer tone. Like the good old tube days. I know they are making a big come back in the concert scene. Marshal, and Peavey stuff. But check out what I just ordered.

Sound Stream MTUBE-8 Tube Pre-Amp

Professional dual-valve/tube pre-amp

High co-channel separation

Harmonic feed-back loop control circuitry

Double sided copper-clad PCB

Frequency response: 15 Hz-55 KHz

Output power: 10 volts

Cool-glow, dual color tube window

Switchable dual input

Front/rear/sub output

Variable phase control (0~180)

Separate Sub volume control

Master volume control

3 position selectable ground audio reference

S/N ratio: >90dB

Variable sub-crossover 40-150Hz
Now I'm not sure what all that stuff means. But for $135.00 bucks, I just have to try it. At least I can get some EQ, and sub control.

Am I crazy, or has anyone else looked into tube set-ups?

I'm not that big into pre-amps anymore man. I've found that some of those things just give you more places to have to isolate a ground loop. Besides that, most of the amps and HU they make now have cross overs that are good enough to phase out the pre-amp. But that's just my opinion, to each his own. Either way, it sounds like a pretty sweet deal man and Sound Stream has made a big come back so it might be worth it. Once you get it installed let us know how you like it. Good Luck!

If you don't mind me asking, I would like to know what format you got this reading in. DB Drag, USACI, etc. If it was not at a formated event, then what mic was it on? Termlab, audiocontrol, etc??

The reason I ask, is that I have been a DB Drag competitor for 3 yrs now, and am experienced in the SPL side of things. I had 2 12s on 4k doing a 47.4 in the A, and have seen 3x as loud. DB readings are always questionable. As far as I am concerned, unless it was in DB Drag, or on the termlab with the vehicle completely sealed(no open doors or windows), the the reading doesn't mean anything!

It was at a car show in Tennessee that was USACi sponsored about 3 or 4 years ago. I think the name of the show was the Vapers Car And Truck show. I have no idea what kind of meter it was, that's usually a question I never ask (which I probably should). But I'm with you on the Termlab deal, if it's not a Termlab then the reading is questionable but as for my highest reading, it's the highest I've hit on ANY meter so to me those are my bragging rights.

Right, I'm not saying you can't brag on it, I'm just sayin. If it wasn't on a termlab, then its not as big of an accomplishment as it would be if you did do it on the termlab! Everyone knows that you can easily gain 5db just by opening a door and throwing the mic in the kick. You could easily gain another 2-6 depending on the mic used! Thats all I was asking!

I'm completely with you man, no argument here. I know there are little things you can do to gain db's as far as placement of the mic, adding sound deadening in the right spots, stop escaping air, etc. Yeah, trust me, if I hit 150 on a TL then bragging would be something that would come SUPER easy!! LOL!!! I'm sure I'll see you at Asylum man, so we can definately talk there and exchange ideas about audio and video setups and share a few stories about SPL comps., I look forward to it.

The 425 will run the 6.1's and the 250 will run the sub bridged at 2 ohms. For right now I am just using the front channels for the 6.1's and the rear is bridged at 2 ohms into the sub.

The L7s are awesome for SPL purposes, I just never liked the way they sounded for daily driving. I'm pretty picky though! The PA 2500D is pretty cheap, you should be able to get it for around 200, but then the quesiton remains, are you really going to get 2500 out of it?? I paid well over $400 for my 2000D, but there is no question as to if it puts that out or not!! Just food for thought!

How much you think tha nine one is putting out at .5Ohms? Its rated at 1200 @1Ohm?
Well that all depends, you will never get much over what the amplifier is rated at, even by cheating it! For instance, I'm running my 2000D at .66 ohms. Most likely I'm not getting over 2000w out of it by cheating it, due to voltage. In a perfect world, my amp will do 2000w rms at 1ohm at 14.4v, everyone knows that as soon as you turn the amp on, and something plays out of it, you are no longer getting 14.4v to it, and all that jazz. So, with that said, I would guess that if the amp does 1200w at 1(in a perfect world), then I would say that by cheating it, you are just getting closer to actually using the full 1200w. Does that make any sense?? :ponder:

Kyle I don't think you'd have to pull all that sound deadening shit out. Me and you got the stripped down basic models and stephen had some fancy package on his. So when he did his headliner there was ton of shit up there. Mine looked smooth and blue lol.

Here we go.

Alpine CDA-9811 headunit
Focal Polyglass 165VR 6.5'' components in the front
Focal Polyglass 165V1 6.5'' components in the rear
Rockford p450.4 running components
Rockford T10001bd mono block
2 12'' Alpine type-r subs
(all is torn out of the car right now, putting in deadening in the whole car and then glassing the trunk. Doing a flush mount raised false floor)
0 AWG wiring from under the hood to the Stinger SP800 battery in the trunk.

Why go with a mass produced sub that anyone can buy when you can get one custom built?!!

Kove Armageddon motor and basket with all Fi soft parts.

And the sub compared to my old 12's.

Very nice sub you put together there. I am actually looking into FI myself.

Ya, a lot of folks never even consider any brands outside of the major ones, by major, I mean the ones that EVERYONE including your grandmother has heard of!

I love the 12WD, I have yet to smell voice coil on it, even after throwing 2k at it for 3 hours at a show...still nothing! LOVE

Well, looks like it's time to throw another 500wrms at it to work it!!! Yeah, but what people also don't know is that everyday brands also have a lineup that are way above what they are buying now. Yeah, they know that JL has the 13w7, and Pioneer has the SPL series but people don't know about Rockford Fosgates "Team Rockford" subs and most people don't know about Sundown, DD, DC, RD, Stetsom, etc. I guess some people reading this are like "hmmmm, let me look into these brands"!!! The biggest difference is the quality that these companies produce and the next biggest is the performance!!! I can pay $400 for a 10" that will out perform anything that JL has ever made and not spend $1000 for just the sub.

im running each coil at 1.5 ohm thus producing(i actually checked...not a guess)1422w per coil.
got a sound comp this saturday and i hope it hits higher than last time, well it should since radio has been upgraded along with wiring it down to a lower impedence level.
i also have a 8v line driver laying around but not sure if i should use it or not...any opinions on that?

man, I can't wait to get started on my new setup! 4 15" FIs in a half wall, thinking of tuning it around 30hz to grab that stupid low bass! Can't decide if I want to throw more power in there yet or not, I have been thinking about maybe picking up another 2000D and strapping the two together! 4 15s on 4k..... the killer 4s!!

I have seen it in person, held one also. They are some crazy mad heavy bastards. They have actually been out for a while, might just be making its way up to you. I can't think of any reason to have a sub that big, unless your going for a single sub monster setup!

How many net cubes are you looking at doing? I would think you'd need at least between 16 and 20 cubes and TONS of port area.

Okie Boom
06-24-2009, 06:56 AM
I have not done any of the measurements yet, hell I haven't even decided 100% on a sub yet. No matter what, we all know its going to be a huge enclosure, good amount of airspace, mixed with a tremendous amount of port area. Now the question is, to stick with 2k (which Im leaning towards) or bump up to 4k.

What kind of electrical do you have to power that 2 or 4k?

For the 2 right now, I am running a kinetik 1400 under the hood, and a single kinetik 800 in the rear. When I had the 4k in there I had 2 800s in the rear. Ofcourse there is more 0ga in that car than you can shake a stick at!! Big 3 is done.....I wanted to upgrade the alt for the longest time, but decided against it!

Did you have a voltmeter somewhere to watch your voltage? What was your voltage drop at full tilt? What were you metering at with the 4k? I know right now, I'm running a Odyssey 1500 under the hood and a XS Power D925 in the back with a MechMan alt which is 250 amp Rhino Series that does 150 amps at idle and my drop is from 14.4 to about 12.7-12.5 at full tilt at idle. I'm running all Knu Konceptz Kolossus Fleks 0awg (which I must add is the best wire available to date) I just got another upfront replacement battery which is a XS Power D2400 and I have another D925 that should be here really soon and I'm only running about 2k. Tomorrow I'll be pushing 3200rms to two 15's, right now I'm just waiting on the resin to dry :cry: and can't wait to test and tune tomorrow but I know it'll be tuned to at least 32hz. Just like you, I like them lowz!!!

Okie Boom
06-26-2009, 07:04 AM
Right now my drops are almost nothing, I go from about 13.9 down to 12.7 or so on full tilt, at about 40hz. I love my kinetiks!!

Now when I had the 4k, I had some monster drops! I had 2 soundstream 2000Ds strapped (at 1ohm = .5ohm per amp) and man were they some power hungry beasts!!

Kinetiks are ok, I almost bought one just to go under the hood but then found out they were never designed to go under the hood but they seem to hold up pretty well. XS Power, from what I read, has the strongest batteries in their respective groups so I went that route.

Yeah, I completely understand your power hungry amps man. I'm running a Hifonics Colossus and I'm only running it at 4 ohms and I get some serious drop. I don't know how it's gonna react today when I finish up this install and drop my ohm load. I hate waiting on resin to dry, but you gotta do whatever it takes to get every tenth out of a box build!!!
