My car doesn't smoke as often anymore, but it still does it occassionally. I checked the oil - it's brand new and clean still - still full. Coolant is clear and not cloudy. There's not an abnormal increase in blowby in my catch can. The smell is like burning tires - not a burnout, but like a tire fire - it's awful. No real intervals for the smoke though - it's not necessarily only at start up, or at a certain rpms or during any specific action - it just kinda does it when it wants.
The smell increases though when I let off the gas after hard acceleration in no particular gear. I have no clue what's wrong with it. I'm assuming since all my fluids are clear that it's the turbo leaking oil inside. I noticed a small amount of oil on the compressor half of the turbo around one of the bolts, but how would that affect the smoke in my exhaust? Maybe it's leaking into the compressor and getting sucked into the engine?
Fuck if I know - I'm hoping that someone has experience with this issue - I don't want to take apart my turbo kit unless I have to, and I won't be able to until the weekend anyway.
If you have insight, please help a brotha out!
EDIT: The smoke is like a grey color - I wouldn't call it blue, but it's not white either. Pretty thick clouds for about 30 seconds at a time.

if your adding coolant i would say head gasket, idk.

do a compression test and a blow down test, i have a feeling your rings are gone

i would want to say the rings find out why the turbo is leakin oil, would recommend a rebuild just to be safe

It's the turbo.
I took off my charge piping, and it's coated in oil all the way back to the throttle body. Driving home, my charge piping popped off the turbo, and there's oil everywhere now. My turbo is spraying oil into my engine.
Checked my PCV lines to verify the status of the rings, and there's no indication of worn rings, so I think the engine is fine. Turbo has to go though - it's definitely busted.
Can't afford to fix the thing, so I'm taking the kit off tomorrow and going back to stock. I'm probably going to part out the kit to anyone who wants the stuff. I have a tial 38mm wG (chrome top), HKS SSQ BOV (painted black) with flange pipe, intake with 07 MAF flange (painted black), and ATP manifold and downpipe, and weapon-r catch can. Dunno how much, but if anyone is interested, PM me.
Fuggin sucks, but I'm more interested in keeping my car around (considering I haven't even had it for a year) than making it fast. I'm sticking with N/A for a while.

I got offered $50 for it from a guy who's getting it rebuilt.
Lemme find out if his offer is legit, and if not, I'll PM you.
I wasn't going to include it with everything because it's busted and useless as is.

no, it's a .63a/r DSM turbo I bought online. Don't cheap out on the turbo, turns out they can break pretty easily.
I got the car back to stock today (only took 2 hours). The car is still quick as shit - I kinda miss that mid-range boost, but it's not terrible without it. The car runs smoother, shifts smoother, accelerates smoother, and there's no more burning oil smell, no more hesitation, and best of all - no more stalling at stop signs!
I can't say I really miss the turbo. It was a pain in the ass to maintain, and given all the problems I had at 7psi, I'm glad it broke before I upped the boost and put that much more money into it.
For now, I'm gonna hang on to my turbo kit, and figure out what my plans are. I like the razor sharp acceleration of N/A, so I might start some N/A modding, or just sell the car and get something with a factory turbo....I dunno yet. But I'm happy now - no more stress from the damn turbo.
However, I have this very loud ticking coming from the engine...it's very loud - audible from over 30 ft with the hood closed at idle. No clue what it is - I'm assuming valve chatter, but I don't know why that would just start randomly after taking the turbo off. Never made that noise before...I dunno. Any ideas?

Did you reset your ECU and take off your emanage?

most likely the valves.

the popping noise was actually my hotwires - one of the boots popped off in the turbo removal process, and it was arcing to the next wire - the arc was like 3cm long - it was nuts...and extremely loud.
And no, I'm still running the e-manage with a blank tune. I'm gonna leave it on because I wanna tune it for N/A down the road.
