So I have been wanting to get a set for a while now and finnaly ordered them last week. They came in today and I went out to put them on and I cant figure out how they are supposed to go in. What bolts up where? The instructions are a little sketchy and its only got three little hand drawn generic pictures at the bottom of the page. Does anyone have any pics of an install or can anyone explain what goes where?
I was under the impression the stock hinge would still be there but the way the instructions read, you are replacing the hinge with the shock but if you did that, when you opened the hood, it would just flop down in the front.
I am so lost right now so any help would be great.

im pretty sure they go on the sides and then attached to the hood. search google for images. you will get a couple.

I always forget about google.....
I searched on here and scion life before i posted but got crap.
And of coarse after I posted, I went out and looked again and tried different things and I found where I take a bolt out of the fender to screw this one in for the shock. By the pics in the instructions, It looks like the bolts go in a hole right by the windshield and that there is some sort of "sleeve" that goes into the hole first and then you screw the bolt in.
I got it though. now my problem is:
has anyone else used them on a carbon fiber hood? it seems where my hood meets the hinges, when I put the shock on, it makes the hood flex. I didnt let go all the way b/c I didnt want to test it like that just yet but I am a little uneasy about it.

Screw it, I called my body guy and I am heading over there with it when I get off work in another hour. He will get me hooked up.
I just dont want to close the hood and then the shocks suddenly jab through the top of the hood.....
Also as I look at this, I think once I get both on and adjusted, it shouldnt make the hood flex like that. nothing is pushing on the hood itself. the shock attaches the fender and the hinge. I am a little rusty on my physics but I think I can make it work with a carbon fiber hood.

They make two different sets. One is a little weaker to work with CF hoods. Which ones did you get?

I got the regulars b/c I didnt know there was another set. I heard they are discontinued though. Its no big deal either way. I took my hood to my body guy last night and he is going to reinforce it for me. Something about some metal bars and fibrerglass. It will be a little hevier when he is done but should still be alot lighter then the stock one. I put my stock hood on with the shocks to go on ahead and break them in while he fixes the CF one. I should have it back on next week.
also, I just looked at those. I may be wrong, but I think the shocks themselfs are CF or CF wrapped. not neccisarly for a CF hood. the title is a little misleading.

This is true, I'm not sure of the specific though. I don't have either set myself.

yes and no.
They are on and still on the stock hood. I went by the body shop Friday to do a test fitting with the carbon fiber hood. He had already reinforced it and we wanted to make sure it was enough to hold. So far it looks like its going to work perfect. He just has to smooth the bottom side back out and he is also going to re-paint it for me. I should have it back by the end of this week. After everything that has gone into this thing, I should be able to claim it as "One of a Kind".
Also, Since my other hood doesnt have the spray nozzles and I dont want to drill holes in it, I ran some extra hoes up the wiper blades so the cleaner shoots out from the blade onto the windsheild. I picked up all the extra parts at Lowes for less then $20.
