View Full Version : New XB Windshield
When Jester and I were in Detroit for the auto show, we ran in the director of marketing and the marketing project manager for PPG Glass. After spending an hour or so talking, the marketing director tells us about this new aftermarket glass thats been developed, called "Chromax". Chromax has a blue reflective outside however it is not a tint.
PPG was kind enough to lay a couple pieces of glass on Jester and myself and mine was installed today...and let me tell you...it's BADASS! Blue as hell in the sun and just a slight bronze tint from inside looking out.
As PPG says, "It's sunglasses for your car!" They equate this glass to "blu blocker glasses".
It was getting fairly overcast by the time I took these pics this afternoon, but in the sun...it's awesome!

Currently there are only 2 xb's windshields, but they can definitely make more. I don't have a solid price yet but I'll be speaking with the marketing manager tomorrow.

In our discussion's with the PPG people, we were told about a product that PPG makes called "Aquapel". It's along the same lines as Rain-X but supposed to be way better. The director of marketing told us that if you put that on your windshield it should help with the rock chipping in the fact that it decreases somewhat the friction coeffient of rocks hitting the windshield and should allow them to slide easier instead of pitting.
I haven't tried it yet but I will be ordering some to try

I purposely drove by as many cops as I could yesterday, even past the police station a couple times where I live. I musta passed a dozen cops from city to hiway patrol and no one gave me a second look

That does look bad ass but I don't think it will fly in Kansas or Missouri, since we are close to the state line. Have to worry about 2 states here. :Banane02:

I just talked to them, only for the stupid Chrysler 300C, Dodge Magnum and Dodge Charger for now. They knew nothing at all about your xB. Oh well, maybe one day...

This is very similar to the solar-treated windshields that where sold in oldsmobiles and other vehicles.

That is freaking awesome. I am also curious as to how LEO's will react to it in the future. Since it isn't tint, you should be ok, but I am sure you will get stopped and checked more than once. Too bad the blue wouldn't look good on my car. If they made a red tinted piece, I'd definitely be interested.

I just got off the phone w/ the marketing manager. That phone number you called is to Vintage Glass. They are a distributor for PPG on this project but only for the Mopars.
There were 20 windshields made on this production run. They're scheduling a run for TC's sometime next month. They're talking about doing a run for the Gen 2 XB, but nothing's definite yet. I asked about doing them in other colors but thats not going to happen...blue it is.
Sales manager still hasn't come through with a price yet, but I told her to get on him about it.

Not much different than the gold tint that the Ford/Lincoln Mercury vehicles had with the heated windshields. Hmmmm, maybe I'll go hunting for a semi-truck so I can get my 5th windshield. LOL
