OK I bought a used supercharger that already had a Weapon R intake and NST 9.5lb boost pulley. I've had it on since the first of Dec. and never had a cel. Well two weeks ago the night before a IFO event I pulled the air filter off and cleaned it b/c I was planning on running it at the track and I wanted it to be able to get the cleanest, coldest air possible. I didn't know what to clean it with so I used a K&N filter cleaner kit then reoiled the filter(I didnt start the car until the next morning). On the way to IFO the CEL light came on. Last weekend I took my car into the dealership to have my mirror replaced and asked if they could hook up the diagnostic thing to find out what caused the CEL. The service guy said it read a lean motor reading. What could have caused this? Cleaning the filter I dont know? How do you clear the CEL? I already disconnected the battery and it came back on after 20 or 30 miles. Any input would be appreciated?

did you get a reflash for the s/c? or a piggyback? cuz you need one of em.
and im thinkin your filter was clogged before and now that you cleaned it, you gettin a whole lot more air intake, causing it to run lean.

Yeah - you may need to reset your ECU so that it'll learn on a clean filter..

but from what im told, the ecu doesnt learn once its been reflashed., and doesnt learn with a piggyback, it only learns on a n/a setup which wouldnt help him.

:deadhorse:damn!!! so basically he got it reflashed on a dirty filter then when he cleaned the filter it started reading better air and now the reflash is pretty much pointless. so now hes gonna have to get it reflashed isnt he.

that or buy a piggyback( which is superior in tuning F/I) and never have to reflash again.

That too, but the oil can be cleaned off of the maf with electricical cleaner, which you can get at most auto parts stores, that happened when i cleaned my K&N filter before i went to a drag once.

hmm biff well u got three choices dude.
1. clean the MAf which should be done anyway just to be sure.
2. that dont work get it reflashed
3. get a real piggy back and a tune and get a lot more whp than with the trd a/f reflash.

Option 3 out of the question. I had to by a new module for the supercharger from TRD which set me back $400 + $65 for shipping + $100 for the flashing. Guess I could always throw some dirt on the filter :dontknow: to dirty it up. Shouldn't disconnectimg the battery reset the CEL. Damn it I really miss my old carburated Z-28, running lean ajust the carb prob solved.

it does, but that means the problem is still there, what you need to do is figure out what exactly is causing the problem before you go off and spend more money, certain systems on cars run their own self test, i know for jeeps they do since i work at a dealership, but the dealership can also run the tests manually without having to go drive the car say a number of 3 trips since thats what most jeeps do, and if it has a fails any one of the test it ran then the check engine light will come on, but if you can get it to do 3 good trips then you'd be good.

Well if it was flashed with a "dirty" filter and I cleaned it and now its reading too much air then nothing is really wrong the computer just thinks its running lean right? Is there any way to tell if the car IS lean. If it runs rich I know you can smell the extra fuel in the exhaust what about running lean?

the dealership has a scanning tool that can tell you anything about the motor to the 02 sensors, or you can find someone that has one that is able to check your system monitors
