I was chilling in my car today, running it at idle for a while, and I go to leave and I get to a light and notice that huge amounts of blue/grey smoke is pouring from my exhaust, so I pull into the next parking lot I find and take a look under the hood. Nothing wrong there - the shit's still pouring out of my exhaust and smells terrible. Blue/grey smoke means you're burning oil, so I try and figure out why, and my only two theories are that A) I blew out a piston ring or B) an oil seal on the turbine side of the turbo is leaking oil into the exhaust.
The two things I noticed...
1) it was only really bad at idle - I didn't notice any huge clouds trailing me home. I'm sure it was probably coming out still, but compared to idle, it was kiddie shit. The car ran fine - nothing out of the ordinary...I did notice that my BOV (or I assume it was my BOV) was making an odd whistling noise when it let off the pressure.
2) it stopped smoking when I got home....for now.
I noticed the other day that my car smelled like it was burning, but didn't see any change in exhaust until today. Car doesn't seem sluggish or like it's losing power (that I can tell anyway), so I have no clue what's wrong. I have noticed, in the past, small amounts of oil on the inside of the turbo inlet. So I really just think it's a shitty turbo and needs to be replaced.
Is it gonna hurt me to drive the car if it's smoking like that? I can't afford to replace the turbo right now, so I may just end up taking the kit off until I can find the money to fix it.
Anyone have any suggestions?
