Now that I have added a baby elephant in weight to my car, I think it is time to add some serious performance upgrades. I just ordered a K&N CAI, and exhaust will be next(not 100%, but leaning toward Greddy SP2), followed shortly by an agency power light weight crank pully. My main goal, build the motor up to support a turbo, and a little spray. So, with that said, what are some other "supporting" mods that I could do, while I save up for the big one(turbo). I know this thing will never run 8s in the 1/4 mile or anything stupid like that, I just want to have a little fun is all!

I read on xateam that the sp2 was hard to get now for the xa. someone had to go with the tanabe insted.

what about changing up the fuel rail?

Very good idea.....know where I could get my hands on one?
Any ideas are welcome, I'm somewhat new to the zoom game, got lots of buddies that go fast, but they are all hot rods, and well, this motor is a little different!!

Good deal, I will have to look into that!!!

Any other "supporting" mods anyone can think of?? I know there is more little stuff out there!! :mro:

Alright, been butting heads with a fellow OKC member tonight, and here is what we have come up with.

Exhaust
Header
Crank Pulley
torque damper
Strut and sway bars
voltage stabalizer

all this before the turbo ofcourse, and in that order......and I will be throwing some juice in there somewhere, whenever I can come across a good setup! What you guys think?? :ponder:

I would go suspension upgrade sooner on the list, as your going to want the extra control before extra power. Also your going to see a bigger difference there.

It is an auto

I'm sure that things will come in a different order than I plan, I have already been looking into sway and strut bars, so ya know...I never stick to my plan 100%!!

Supporting mods...

Pistons
Rods
P&P head
Engine Managment
Block sleeved
New bearings
Since your auto tranny cooler

To turbo the xa and be worth it to handle somthing you need to dump alot of cash into it.

well I will def take all of those into consideration before I throw the turbo at it. I just got the intake on today, and I'm already ready for the header and exhaust!!! I need some juice too!!

well, seeing as how it is going to be a little while before I get the turbo, I'm just wanting to add a little bit for now. I will however not order the header now, the intake was a steal, so no biggy there, and once I get the turbo, I can always throw it on the ladies B!!

I am talking to Charlie, working out a deal on a strup axleback, and then from there, I will be ordering the pulley!!

Okay. here is my 2cents.. it is a great thing you going turbo in the future, just like Keith. Dont waste ur money... i have notice a lot of people fixing Scions are new to the import scene. let me just say and there are test that support this. intake and headers majority of the time dont add power to the vehicle. in most cases it take HP front the engine.. and those intake system that do increase HP (2 or 3) arent DOT approve.

i have a friend with a Tercel/Paseo in the Dominican Republic, 12.9 at 112 mph 1/4 mile. same engine we have and he is pushing 230 at the wheels, stock engine. now his vehicle only take the streets on weekends. he told me to go with a good wet multi port NOS system, 100 shoot. our plastic intake is the best for that set up.

but bro from 12 years experience in imports performance, those items look good in the car and make a lot of noise.. i guaranty you the XA wont get more than 4 HP.

Well thank you very much for the input. It is greatly appreciated! I fully plan on the nitrous, so that is good to hear! I do however think that there are other gains to be had though. I put the intake on yesterday, and I can DEF tell the difference. Not a HUGE difference, but I can tell that there is more pick up!! I really do appreciate the advice, it is much appreciated! I'm still going to get the axleback from strup, just to make some noise!!
Just have to wait for Charlie to get back to me!!

What you said is half true... Yes parts can make the car slower... but what its doing is hurting the low end and helping the high end... Or Hurting the high end and helping the low end... Its all about the power curve, and thats all about what you need.

and also, is like upgrading your stereo in the car, if you going for power all 3 major components have to be upgraded, Head unit = to the electronic controls of your engine(computer and ignition). Amps = force induction (turbo, NOS, even intake and exhaust) and the Speakers = your out put engine and trani.. Equal valance and you set.. remember to always change your spark plugs to cooler resistance, the more HP you gain the hotter the combustion is.:doc:

VERY nice terminology! I like that!

Puts it into perspective a little more, seeing as how I'm somewhat of a car audio nut!
What spark plugs would you guys recommend? I need to replace them anyway, and now is as good a time as any!

So....On to this "headunit" part. I know you can upgrade ignition and such, but what is there to be done to the computer of the car? Is that something that will be taken care of when I have the turbo kit installed, or are there things that I personally can to help the situation?

Dayum it Keith, you continue to burst my bubbles!!

Its all good, I will have to look into that as well when it come time for the turbo!

What do you guys think about plug wires? I have heard from some they help, and from others, they don't. I know all my hot rod buddies, that is one of the 1st things they change out, so with that said, you guys thing they will give the A a little kick in the butt or not? :ponder:

Has anyone here done the underdrive pulley on an xa, if so, was it worth it? My only experience on an underdrive pulley was on a chev PU. There was a small power increase, but my voltage stayed low(around 12.8 - 13.5). I always had trouble with it until i went back to stock.

Has anyone done a small amount of nitrous on a stock motor without problems? On a 93 celica ST, I had a 35 shot on it for over 2 years and the only problem I had was a little smoking.

I have yet to do my pulley, but it is next on my list! If you do have voltage issues, maybe a voltage stabalizer will be in need. As for the nitrous, I don't think you would have any problems with a little shot say 30-50 kinda thing.

I was just about to put up a new post about this :) I had my xA on the strip saturday night. My only performance mod is an Injen SRI. I've got a 2 inch drop and 16 inch wheels. Also had my 12 inch sub and box in the back with other various things rattling around back there. Got a full size spare back there too. The extra weight probably countered the intake, so it's pretty close to stock. My best run of the night was 17.2 in the quarter. On that run i had a .5 second reaction time, so it's possible to break into the high 16s :) My worst run was 17.9. I can post up the time slip when I get home if you want to see the details :)
