I know people can run 225's with out a problem and I believe I have heard of xD owners running 245's with fender lip rolling. Could some 235's fit with after-market rims without modifications being performed and could the car still be lowered?

Depends on the offset, and rim width

235 shouldn't be a problem, but why 50 series? My 205/45s have a pretty big sidewall and they're stretched.

But Bob is right, the rims will play a big roll in determining the fitment, along with the amount of drop you go with. Also rolling fenders isn't that big of a deal.

Also note that the sidewall on a 235/50 and a 205/50 is different.

Its an aspect ratio. 50% of the tires widest points. so using the above example the 235/50's actually have 15mm more sidewall than the 205's. That being noted. Chris is actually right in his sidewall profile in relation to the 195/60s that come stock in the car, being only .5mm off. for him its gonna be all about tire width since your adding over an inch of tire width to the stock measurements

Yup. 205/50 has a sidewall of 102.5mm and a 235/50 has 117.5. 15mm may not sound like much but in the gap we're talking about it can be noticeable. 15mm is over half an inch.
I'm running 205/45 tires on 16"x8" rims, so the stretch makes my sidewalls look smaller than they actually are, and I'm still rubbing tire on my fender even after rolling. Only because of my offset. But there are still things that can be done to fix the issue. I still have a couple trouble spots to finish on my fender roll and I need more camber.

pretty nuts on a tc, im guessing youre running offset low enough that you need small profile tires on a 16" rim on a tc.

anyway on topic, should fit fine depending on the drop and rim specs. been needing to roll my own fenders for the front, and soon for the back. our fender lip is not very big and the only problems i foresee is how high up the front and rear bumpers come up onto the tire well since thats plastic and not metal. prolly just have to file it down

I knew someone would catch that :banana:, according to my calculations (or better yet the computer at work) when I'm traveling 70mph my speedometer will read 69.9.

This isnt for a tC though. not sure how similar the wheel back spacing is and how similar the fender space is

Just referring to the speed change from altering the wheel diameter.

If I had to I would not mind leaving the car at stock height, I'm just not to sure what offset 16 inch wheels to go with.
