Hi, we are new scion xb 2008 owners and have decided to get some new rims. I have read through the threads on here and know that I would have to get the tire pressure monitors moved with the tire if we do get new rims. My question is, how hard is it to find rims that will accomodate the valve stems for the monitors? I was shopping in a local auto parts store and the tire person told me that many rims will not work with them? How do you tell before you buy the rims? Sorry if this is posted somewhere else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I might be wrong but I have never heard of this problem..the sensor is on the end of the valve stem on the inside of the rim..so I guess it might have something to do with the lip of the rim..but I dont see how it could effect anything....

i deal with TPM systems at jeep, they are easy to swap to the new wheels, all it is is a nut that holds the valve stem firmly in place, seen tons of after market wheels on jeeps that use the TPM system. i dont think you'd have a problems though.

I was wondering the same thing. That is good to know that there really isn't a problem moving them.

I asked a representative for IForge rims (fancy and expensive rims) and they said that any and all TPMS wouldn't be hard to just move from the stockers to any one piece aftermarket rims. As for 2-piece and 3-piece aftermarket rims they said that the owner would most likely have to get a mounting kit for it (where it gets mounted i forgot.) Other than that you might just not want to drop them into the aftermarket rims and put a piece of electrical tape over that light that shows up on the dash. Just my two cents

Can you use the original steel rims without sensors? I want to mount winter tires on the original steel rims but I'm not sure what air valve would fit?

Yes U can use steel wheels without the sensor but your TPMS light on your dash will show! If U dont mind a light U cant turn off It should not be a big deal! Just make sure U check the air pressure 1-2 times minimum a week! And the steel wheels air valve opening is a standard size! Any tire shop will have the rubber valve stems that will fit! If they are cheap ass punks than U can buy some @ your local auto store, just make sure their no cracks around the stem area and also the newer the more better!
