View Full Version : Installing Optional OEM Spoiler

Has anybody yet bought the optional OEM rear spoiler and installed it themselves?
I'm curious as if you remove the original little spoiler and the optional one uses the existing mounting holes.
Also, do OEM Scion accessories you buy typically come with instructions? I helped my father in-law install the Toyota rear spoiler on his Yaris and it came with instructions and three templates to help locate where we had to drill holes.
After finding the optional XD one online for ~$250 I'd like to replace the original little one.
Thanks,
Trenton
I just installed mine today, it does come with instructions... but you really dont need them... it used the same factory holes from the little one that you remove. no drilling involved
when i bought the car i wanted the spoiler.. they said they would have to order it... for $230.00... i told them since they didnt have it in stock i would just by one from ebay...
they said they would "special order" with next day shipping....
i said ok, but i want it for $200 out the door... they said ok....(probably because i hadnt signed papers yet, even though i paid cash for the car)
so today i go to get it and have it installed... thats when they pulled the $75.00 install fee... lol..
I opened the box to check the color and the instructions fell out ... I looked at the instructions and said "no thanks , I will put it on myself"
the install took me 10 minutes...
and the car looks so much better!

$230 from the dealer seems like a good price. I haven't checked mine yet but I'm guessing they're going to want all of the $385 it lists for on the Scion website. Cheapest dealer I've found online is ~$250.
Glad to hear the install is a piece of cake. I'll definately have to get one since I won't have to worry about trying to get the thing level or anything.

$219 at ScionPartsPeople.com, The parts are shipped from puallup washington Scion dealership, with shipping I would guess around 250 depending on where you are having it shipped.

Yes! A mail order dealer that's on the West Coast. I'm so going to get the spoiler. It'll be nice not having to wait two weeks for the thing to show up in the mail.

does it help with dirt collecting and rain on the back window?

Yes! Of course, I've only been driving mine for about a week, but it's rained like crazy and I hardly have to use my rear wiper. And when it snowed, there was no snow on my rear window.
I think the car just looks so much sharper with it on. :mrorange:

Thanks for the heads up on that online dealer. I placed my order last Sunday and received the spoiler the following Thursday.
Like Vec said, install was a piece of cake. It took way longer to first wash the car than it did to install the spoiler.
For those who may be interested I have attached the instructions that are included with the spoiler

The ones on ebay I have heard you have to drill on the rear deck.
www.trdsparks.com (http://www.trdsparks.com) has the OEM one at a good price. Like they said. 10 minutes to install.

OK, I just purchased a pre-painted non-OEM spoiler for my Nautical Blue xD, on eBay, the one selling for $119 with FREE shipping, just installed it this morning. NO DRILLING at all, 4 bolts, that's it. Looks identical to the OEM at almost 1/4 the $385 dealer price! You just pop off three pieces of interior trim above the hatch window to access the screws. Oh, there were two little rubber bumpers I had to press into pre-drilled holes at the tips of the wing, which rest against the doorframe when the hatch is closed. And yes, Maybe 15 minutes to install, took me an extra 10 minutes longer because the spoiler didn't come with any instructions and I took time to figure out how the trim pieces on the hatch popped off without me snapping something off, haha....
Auction says it's painted with the same Dupont paint as the OEM, so the finish should stand up. But hey, even if the paint ever has issues, at $119 you could replace the spoiler a couple times and STILL be $$ ahead of the dealer price... So at least this particular aftermarket spoiler sold on eBay seems to be a good deal - and an easy install!

Here is a couple of pics I took this morning of the NON-OEM spoiler:

And yes, no drilling involved, it used the same 4 factory holes for the small OEM spoiler.
