when you do the code to reset the maintenance required light for the oil change if you do it wrong instead of the zeros coming up it says s-on or 5-on hard to tell. iv asked three local dealerships and iv looked it up on the internet and the manual and NO ONE can figure out what it turns on or off or what it is even for.i was wondering if anyone else on here has ran across this or has the answer to my question

I cant find it now that I am looking for it but when you get the car, the indicator light for the oil is set up to go off after 3k miles. there is a programming code similar to resetting it that lets you set how many miles until it goes off. I think there are three settings. 3k, 5k and I dont remember the other one. It sounds like you may have hit that somehow. did yours signal for your oil every 3 or 5k miles?

I think i remembered hearing somewhere that what you are doing is turning on the setting that makes your needles go to the right and reset to where they should be on your gauges, (the other setting they just turn on)... does that make sense

I know there is also a code to turn the - "needle bounce" when you start the car - on and off

I just changed my oil and was trying to reset my maintenance light to 5k (Mobil1 full synthetic oil) and noticed the S-OFF/S-ON as well. I think it affects the gauges as well. When it was in S-OFF the needles didn't calibrate when I turned the key to the on position. I will check it out again for the seat belt.

This may be a better link for you guys...

Be sure that you start the chicken dance the right way.. For the oil change, you must be on the ODO.. For the others, may be different...

s-on/off is for guage sweep option.
b-on/off is for seat belt chime.
The oil reminder can be set to 1k/2k/3k/4k/5k miles your choice. If you erase all the dashes, it is at 5k. If you leave 1 dash you are at 4k and so on.

As for instructions on how to do each, I will leave that for another time.

to reset ur light i believe with key on set to tripA, turn key off. hold trip/reset button while turning key "on" engine off lines will flash in the trip odom display.once it hits 0000000 its reset. however by reading the rest of this thread i did not know u could adjust the mileage by how many line you leave..
