Wheel offset is how far in/out the wheel is. What your car can take depends on the car and, in your case, if you've got widened fenders or not.

On a stock tC (No widened/rolled fenders), the offsets you can safely run are anywhere between +35 and +50... depending on the width of the wheel. I'm running 17x7's with a +35 offset, with 215/45R17 tires. No rub.... I can run 225/45 tires too without problem. Go wider, and you'll need larger offsets to push 'em in more.

I HEART WIKIPEDIA.
The offset, measured in millimeters, can be negative or positive, and is the distance from the mounting surface to the rim's true centerline. A positive offset means the wheel is front of the mounting surface, closer to the center of the fender; a negative offset means the wheel is away from the mounting surface and projecting from the fender.
stock offset on a tc is 45. I recommend around a 40 or so to make them look good. but if your running anything wider than a 7.5" width your going to need 45.
