You think the 2nd gen 6-speed manual transmission will fit the 1st gen? I'd love to get the better gas mileage of the 2nd gen.

No its not gonna fit like a hot swap. its a new and different engine that its bolted to so it will need some modding. but if u got the cash and time, that 6-speed can fit no question.

like they said it will fit if you throw enough money and time at it but the questions is will it be worth it?

prolly but not worth it. I read on SL that the gear ratios are gonna be about the same so top speed is gonna be the same, it would be fun though. I'd like to do it but im lazy and i forget to shift to 5th most of the time i run 4th unless im on the interstate lol.

the five speed tranny in the first gen is good enough. it would totally be a waist of time.

How about an engine and tranny swap? Think it would bolt right on???

bolting in is one thing.... making it work properly is another. I doubt it's a bolt in anyway. is a completely different car

Yeah the frame is different. The real reason they changed the tC so radically was because they changed the Avensis (the car the tC is based on). Just like the xA became the xD when the European/Japanese car had changed.
