The crushed velvet I found is 20.00 for a yard that's 44" wide, but I think I am going to need it to be wider, but they said they will special cut it so it's all good. I'm super excited about it.

Dude that looks sick and clean as hell. Did you have to use spray adhesive like 3m stuff? I guess what Im asking is how it is attatched? I want to do something like that but I've never really done anytihng like that.
Han_Boostedtc
02-29-2008, 04:01 AM
It was my first time too. Just take your time and I use spray 3m glue. You can also find some fabric glue to do like minor touch ups on the corners and stuff. Just be careful, some types of glue are white so it can seep through and show white through the suede.

Looks good....Good Job for the first time....my fabric is just sitting in the closet for a year waiting to become my headliner

uh ohs better get working on it. like i said, first step is the hardest because your practically demolishing a brand new headliner but if done right, the after effect will be 10x's better. imo. so i hope everyone enjoys the car, i have so much more to do!
is there a DIY? I'd like to do this...

i actually talked to a guy her in the fort that does headliners for a living and he said that hes never used anything in an aerosol can, he recommended to me to get a cheap spray gun, which i got at harbor freight for 10.00 and Dap sprayable contact cement, i couldnt find the sprayable so i used the original.he said that anything in an aerosol can will fall with enough heat. i think my headliner took me and travis 3 hours but you have to count in he sprayed 1foot and i brushed a foot then we waited 10min,then he sprayed both and waited another 10min then smooth inside to outside leaving slack for the curved part on the end.ill get a pic of it inside the car

thanks....wish someone could do a sep by step in the DIY forum...I'm wanding this now.

02-29-2008, 10:52 PM
well it was really easy to do you just have to take your time, i know me and travis didnt do one till we did mine, and it seemed easy once we got it going i guess the key is to do it in small sections.the only thing we found out on a test piece is that once the cement starts to dry and you stick it to something its not comin off, and you cant spray alot or it will soak thru i have 2 spots on mine where it did but you cant tell where they are once they dry.

looks like you and your friend did a real good job and yes i've heard a few people complain about the headliner coming down due to the heat or winter actually. but to tell you the truth, im 90% gonna redo the headliner, every other piece is perfect just the headline was crap. soo hard to do. i'll save it for a rainy day i suppose.

What are those of you that have a xB1 doing with your sun visors and seat belt things after doing you headliner and pillars? They would look dumb stock color and I can't imagine painting them. The paint would rub off easily after a few times putting on your seat belt.

i think some of you should write up a diy for both xb's and tc's!

well my sunvisors still need to be put up but im going to cover them in suede too like a tight pillow case, and my seat belt harness was painted black, it wont peel off if you spray the adhesion promoter first to make sure it has a good stick then clear coat them, i havent had a problem.

Hey guys I have an 05 xb that I wanna do this on...I have no idea where to start. Thinigs I've got from this thread: fabric 54" wide & use 3m spray adhesive. What else do I need to know? how do you get it tight and contoured to all the curves in the headliner? how do you remove the other fabric?
goodguy889
03-17-2008, 03:30 PM
just make sure u spray wait then with ur hand or something smooth it out in the curves. i just went over the old fabric. worked fine for me

i wouldnt use 3m or anything in an aerosol can, use a paint spray gun and sprayable contact cement youll never have to deal with it again, with 3m ive had to redo mine 2 times and i put a chit load on, contact cement is what the pro shops around here use,and they dont have any problems.others might say its ok to use it(3m) but i went with my instinct this time cause if they say it wont, with me it always DOES.ayou can get a gun pretty cheap i paid 9.99 for mine at harbor freight and contact cement was like 10 a quart, i used 1 and 3/4 of a can.

So it needs to be at least 54" wide. I have been asking friends and co-workers if I should do black suede, black crushed velvet, or just die the headliner black and paint the rest. So far everyone is telling me to do crushed velvet.
Ether way, Adam you'll help my pull everything out and get it done right:icon_yes:
I'll look around for pricing and see what I can find.

Do the crushed velvet. We are going to do purple crushed velvet in PRPLHAZ's B. She got a sample of it and it's just gonna look freakin sweet. I'm thinking about doing mine in the crushed velvet also but in a wine color(BCP xB).

After measuring everything out and not waisting fabric by just cutting anywhere I think I can make it work with 8 yards for $60 plus shipping. Next, I need to find some good glue.
