It rained buckets today..like im talking floods.

I didnt drive though this one..but this is what kinda water im talking about

Side of the service road..

let me set the grounds here, due from being low on 18's originally, i cut out my fender lines so it wouldnt rub, and i have the AEM CAI. and im lowered on coils.

so anywho, back to this. this has happened once before due to heavy rain (around late june..early july?) and i found it very strange but shrugged it off, but now today it happened again. As driving though the rain and some puddles, none intentionally deep obviously, my car starts to sputter, like ill try driving and once i reach 4k rpms or any range for that matter it does it. I pulled up to a stop light today after it happened and my car died. like litterally shut off and i had to restart it, it happened twice. once at the light and once again after letting my car idle and occasionally reving in my garage, it died on the way down from a rev. So i guess my question is what it could be? it seems to be working right..ish. I changed my filters to a dry one once i got home a second time today. and like i said, it seemed to be working fine..ish. it doesnt feel like it has as much bottom end maybe or even like crusing down the HW it seems like its rpms are lower than usual.. around 3200 crusing at 70 or so.. idk.
I guess im just asking what all could have happened that its doing this, im pretty sure i didnt get the waterline over the filter at any time but maybe it just being coated in water it could have sucked it up still? im not sure..and if it did hydro lock it obvously wouldnt be running now correct? or ive even heard the HL happening to only like 1 cylinder..

PLEASE HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I don't think it's hydro lock. It would have just flat out died. When you changed your filter, did you notice any water in the piping or in the cleaner box (if you have the stock filter)? If not, maybe it is just something needing changed and it happened to happen now... Fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires. I would check them all and maybe you'll see something amiss.

i noticed some moisture in the piping..not like a lot of dampness though..

Your not hyrdrolocked, if you were hydrolocked your motor would be toast. It does sound like you did injest enough water to stall out your motor though. I pull you plugs and inspect them and change your oil too as water might have gotten in it. you have any CELs?

Yup change the oil and the plugs you might have got just enough water up the intake to cause a problem.

Yeah when I went through one really slow, my check engine light went blinking along with 2 of the dumby lights. Forget which ones exactly..

And yeah I'm due for an oil change and plug change. I guess that's my task for this weekend.

plugs ......same thing has happened to me Colby

I bet if you read the codes from the OBDII port it will probably say multiple cylinder misfire

I see. Thank you Stephen. I was hoping you'd chime in. Your the man of many answers  lol

Dude I freaked out when it happened to me I thought I killed my car....noticed the check engine light was on and figured why not read the codes....and bam multiple cylinder misfire ...changed the plugs and instantly it was running better......oh and on another note make sure you didnt get any crap in your MAF sensor

Will do! My CEL and the others turned off within about 10 seconds of them coming on.

But thank you again, is what the most..probable cause for this? Or could there be multiple things that could cause that same sputtering/engine dyingness?

I went thru the the same s**t...here's a copy of my story...

WOW!!! SHE'S ALIVE!!!
I really thought that I lost my B. I was home bound after work when I got hit by a real bad storm...so bad, that in 10min street were flooding. I had to go all out my way to make it home with out drowning...but the worst got me and my B took a mouth-full of water and died. I had wifey bring my tahoe to pull me home...a full block away from my house. I was knee high in water, so I knew my B was going to be down untill a heart transplant was done. But, I knew, I couldn't let it go with out trying something. I started by pulling the spark plugs and see if they had water...and #2 plug had a shit load of water in it...WOW, that was a lot of water. Then I removed the valve cover to see if it had water...some, not much...then I jacked it up and drained the oil, holy shit, it had alot of water...so, sent wifey to wallies world to get motor oil and filter. With the valve cove off and drain plug out...I pored oil throw the valve train, untill I couldn't see any milky oil running out (took 9 Qts to do this, then 4 to fill her up). I also was turning the motor by hand to help get all the water out. Then started to reassemble everything enough to try to start it. I took like 15 trys untill I was able to start getting a weak run...fought to keep it going, but she fought to stay alive...I let it run for about a hour watching it smoke some mean steem out the pipes. once the steem stopped, I took her for a nice little ride and she ran like nothing ever happend. The only thing that she has, is, the check engine lite on. I could live with that untill I get her scaned to see what I have to fix.
Well, I hope that everyone will learn from me and don't try to cross low water that ends up by your knees when you get out of your ride that died in the middle of the road.

Dang, thank you for that! Yeah I don't think it was up To my knees, since it didn't come in the door seals..the bottom of the door line is just under where the filter starts. And I don't think the door seal is completely waterproof? When submerged anyways. I could be wrong. But I definitely need to do an oil change asap.

my dash lightgs came on before just driving through pretty big puddles. water got up in their and splashed around causing them to go off. but like everyone said i'd change the plugs and what not, i think water just got in their and splashed around. most people with intakes i know have had water issues with it sucking up in the intake because it being right their close to the ground

My girlfriends xb did the same thing. one of the other lights that came on was the battery light so it might also take a little time for some of the wiring to dry out. we had to take her intake off and drain the tube and it ran fine after that. they make a "filter bypass" thing that you can put onto most of the intakes that will prevent that from happening
