anyone know of a place that can do custom fiberglass enclosures for a reasonable price? preferably a shop that already has the dimensions for the cargo area of the xB, and is within a few hours drive of PHX?

also, im looking at getting a new sub/amp/component setup.
i want to go for a 12" Apline Type-X, and an Alpine MRD-M1005 Amp for boom, and Alpine SPX-177R Components for clarity pushed by an Alpine MRV-F345 amp.

ive found a couple places that will give me a good deal- but does anyone recommend any online shops?

thanks guys

the cheapest way to do it is on you own, but it requires some skill and screwing up too bad means starting over

i've never seen an online shop that sells premade fiberglass enclosure for vehicles other than the JL stealth boxes, and they don't make one for xb's yet i don't think, your best bet is gonna be find a dealer to do it

nobody makes online fiberglass enclosures except for one but they wont fit right bc they don't have your car.

are you looking for good deals on speakers or boxes. IF your looking for a good deal with box is just to make it yourself bc otherwize you'll be paying 1500+ for it. If you build it yourself it'll take about 100 hours, plus materials (80-100 bucks) plus paint (200 professionally).

But if your looking at speakers. www.elementaldesigns.com ftw. Seriously the highest quality stuff for the price. I was at their shop last night and heard their components and about blew my load

What about audioformz (http://www.audioformz.com)? I can't remember if I heard anything about their work, but they have some fiberglass stuff don't I think.

what exactly are you looking for? do you want to flush mount the sub and have an amprack? or just have the sub at an angle in a molded enclosure or what? the type x is gonna need a deep enclosure too, so flush mounting it in the bottom of the cargo area is gonna be hard unless you have it hump up a little bit

nah, i dont want it flush with the cargo area.
i would like to get it an an angled molded enclosure, but one that provides enough space for what the sub needs. and also have a place to mount the amps on the enclosure. i want it to take up the entire floorspace in the cargo area too. ive seen them that only take enough space for what the sub needs, and it looks tacky.

something along the lines of this, but for only 1 12" Type-X, and that covers the strut humps.

so basically a lot of fiberglas and not a lot of openings. hmmm....... how much space does the sub need?

ideal specs from alpine factory manual:

Net Int Vol- 0.71ft3
Freq- 36Hz
Qtc- 0.92

VENTED ENCLOSURE:
Ext Dim- 14.5"x16.5"x17.5"

Slot Vent Length- 27in

i dont know a lot about this stuff, but i helped my boy build a regular box for his 13W7, so i get the idea. however, i dont know how all the math adds up when its a shaped enclosure.

well i would look local before online. for a couple of reasons.
#1. local knows exactly what you want and you can check on it
#2. you can pick it up and don't have to pay shipping
#3. if you have any troubles they're right there

if you don't this is what could happen
- you don't get what you want
- you pay MORE for it bc of shipping (fiberglass boxes aren't light)
- if something goes wrong you'd have to send it back etc...

just my opinion. online sub box making is sketchy

a fiberglass box will be cheaper than wood though, i cost me $90 to ship a box to me for my old 12's, the box was a transmission line box however

kinda cool that they make prefab enclosures with fiberglass faces, but if you want a true custom box you have to have the measurements and stuff done right, simply emailing them a few dimensions leaves lots of room for error

Here is a picture of my old setup, Unfortunately I sold it before I knew any of you, but it gives you a pretty good reference for simplicity and performance. This box was tuned to hit 140 dB and consistently hit 139.7 at every IASCA event I competed in, with only 300 watts to the sub. Mind you I competed in SQL only ... Enjoy ..

if you don't mind going with 10's I have some glassed enclosures that I mad that I am not going to be using. I build them and the wife wanted to have a bit more space. lol I will post pics when I get home this evening. I have not covered them yet but I can or you can have them painted.
