I sold a new car to a lady back in my VW days, who had her trade in towed into the dealership. She went to a local Jiffy lube as she was going cross country every 3000 miles. Well the guy in the pit never drained the old oil, and the guy up top cranked in 5 more quarts  She got about five miles away and hydro locked the engine.

The service department figured the rods would be bent, or the head shot without tearing into it, just guessing. So she just took a loss, and bought a new car.

Jiffy Lube is so bad, that they have a special universal plastic drain plug for when they strip out the threads on the stock one.

Wow wtf. Glad I never go there. I swear if something like that happened to my car I think I would snap and break his cell phone and then kick him in the junk. TWICE.

Dang...that link didn't work for me :(
I took my car to Jiffy Lube once...omg, never again! I'm the asshole customer they all hate to see. I station myself right in front of the bay and watch everything that's being done, listen to everything being called. I watched the guy try to grease the upper ball joints on my pimp daddy caddy and he couldn't get to them so he was just going to blow it off...uh huh...not on my car bitch! I also told him to make sure he wiped all the dirt and grease off them before he did it too....what a dumbass. Then at Valvoline, no one there realized on my other Cad that the Northstar takes 7.5 qt's of oil...really??? WTF?
I used to think the convience of places like Valvoline, Jiffy Lube etc was worth it but it's really not. By the time you're done they've got you up to $35 or more. For that price take it to a real mechanic or your local dealer, or better yet, do it yourself. There's really nothing more satisfying than knowing that your pride and joy is being treated that way it should...with a lot of TLC. My other thing is too, I was a professional mechanic for many years and I just don't trust anyone to work on my car. I've seen too much shit that goes on in some of the shops I've worked in.

This is messed up and yet I don't know why I'm surprised because they are people out there just trying to make a quick buck. I took my ford ZX2 to Jiffy Lube once and they put the wrong oil in it. I watched them do it, yet it took me 30 mins to convince them that it took 5-20 . Umm hello it said it on the oil cap. They acted like I had put a different one on there.

Man i would be kickin somebodys ass if they did that 2 me. Thats y i do all my own stuff 2 i have good friends that have shops and all the tools i need 2 get the job done. I like doing stuff like that anyway i enjoy working on my own car even if it is just a oil change.

I only went to JL once. It was a rainy day, I didnt have a garage and needed my oil changed. So I took it to them and watched them do it. Everything looked great till the next oil change. I did it myself and found they torqued the oil drain bolt to hell!! I had to buy a new bolt cause the threads were f'd!

Well i had a buddy once take his car to a Jiffy lube and they drained the oil and never filled it!
He never had to drive the car very far much. The Jiffy Lube was only like 6 blocks from his house and he was going to school and a lot of the times he wouldn't drive his car for days and sometimes weeks. So when he drove it more and more just on short distances it finally started knocking and ruined his engine!
Pulled the dip-stick out and saw that there was NO OIL on it. Went back to Jiffy and they said it wasn't their fault and was like a little over a month ago and they was no way to prove it! Which probably would have been hard to do but needless to say my friend got mad, then he got even! Broke the law but he got some satisfaction out of it! lol
I got a friend who manages a Tires Plus so I go to him for oil changes and tires etc...Not that I can't do it myself but when the oil changes are free with synthetic oil and tires are at cost with no labor how can you pass that up? And when I go he is the only one I let do whatever to 2 of my cars and I'm standing right beside him, and my other car (the beater) I drop off and pick up in a day or so!lol

While speaking of dealerships... I used to work for a dealership here that had pretty great service.. however ..i can recall in probably 3 or 4 different cases where the service tech would drain the oil but would forget to refill.... the tech would finish up the job and 2 seconds out of the bay shop you'd have a freshly blown motor... sucks for the customer and the tech..

i can recall in probably 3 or 4 different cases where the service tech would drain the oil but would forget to refill...I have a system when I change the oil, so that can not happen. The first step is to wipe off the dip stick, and put the keys with it under the hood. Than drain the oil.

I sometimes let the oil drain over night, when I have the time.

:ponder:Now I'm wondering Rob. Have you forgot to put oil back in your car before?
I might laugh a little but would feel sad for ya!lol:roll:

No I haven't yet. Driving old air cooled VW's, you change the oil a lot. They only hold 2.5 qts, and have no oil filter, so its a no brainier, that you do it yourself, and very often.

So I usually dive under there, after a long drive while its nice and hot, pull the drain plug, and finish the oil change when ever. So putting the keys with the dip stick, is my family reminder, not to start the car. :naughty:

Kinda like checking the toilet paper supply, before you sit down. :rofl2:

I wouldnt do that here in south florida, way to many bugs and amphibians and flying bastards that love dark oily holes. nothing like a beetle cloggin your oil pickup to ruin your engine. its a far shot, but still plausible.

In the last 5 Scions I have changed the oil in, 2 of the 5 were grotesquely overfilled.

Mayhem and I changed the oil in these vehicles and his and mine were the only two overfilled. I bought mine used and Toyota "Certified" it by changing the fluids.

Mayhem had Toyota do his as well. Here are trained mechanics putting 5 quarts of oil in a 3.7-4 quart engine.

Our mpg has increased.

CliffNotes:
Jiffylube isn't the only incompetent lubers.

It can happen anywhere. Most dealers don't have their highly-trained mechanics doing lube jobs. You'd hope that they are better than the $10/hr high school grads, but you never know.

The first dealer I worked for was a small VW dealer. Only had 4 techs including me. Once I showed up I usually did the oil changes, but the head tech always kept an eye on what was going on and made sure everyone knew the proper amounts for each vehical as each engine held a different ammount. I actually made the mistake one time of over filling a VW fox, they took less then the Jetta's. He caught my mistake and made me drain off some of the oil, and then slowly top it off till I got it right. And I only made $8 and hour at the time. Although I have always been one that prefers to do the job the right way not the fast way.

On the cool side though we had a electric oil pump at each bay that you set the ammount. So if it took 4.2 quarts it go no more and no less.
