Ok I have some tanabe df210s sitting in my garage ready to go on this weekend. I was looking under the hood at the top of my strut last night and noticed that it doesnt have the 3 typical bolts like the xB and tC. Anyone know how to get the top of the front struts loose???

Me and Ryan installed tanabe df210's in my xD this weekend and had the same prob. We didn't have the tool required to get down in that little hole on top of the strut to get that little nut off so we ended up taking the entire windshield wiper motor assembly off and going at it that way. It took a bit more time but still had the same effect.

I managed to get mine done without removing that. I just had to buy the correct tools. I needed some more tools anyway. One can never have too many tools. So how do you like yours so far? I think mine still rides pretty good.

What special tool did you buy? I am guessing I am going to be the one doing the springs on my sister's D so I want to be prepared.

The main thing was a metric allen that would be short enough to fit in the top without hitting the wiper cover. The other thing is an offset wrench. I believe you can get it done with a regular open ended wrench, but an offset boxend made it much easier.

yeah thats the only tool i didnt have was the offset box wrench. i tried with a normal box wrench and then realized it was way to hard to not round the nut

That nut is impossible to get off with a regular box end wrech IMO...I was in the middle of the install by the time I realized I needed the special wrench, so I used a short socket held by vice grips and inserted the allen wrench through the socket.
and I unbolted the wiper tray but didn't take it out, so I could lift it up to get the allen wrench in position.
