The car came with two free dino oil changes from the dealer and now I'm approaching the 15K mark so it is about time it perform my first oil change on the car. I was wondering who actually makes Toyota oil filters, I'm debating as to whether keep using Toyota filters or switch to Purolator which is the brand I normally use. Viscosity from factory can be either 5w20 or 0w20, currently 5w20 is being used and would I see an increase in fuel economy if I switch to 0w20? OCI is gonna be set around 10K and I was wondering what oil would you recommend for such a long OCI?

First off I hope this is not the very first oil change for the car cause if you are running 5w20 it should be changed every 5k.
As for oil filters, I spoke with some Toyota tech's and they told me that the Toyota oil filters are actually better then some of the others like Fram cause the filter itself gets out more junk then any others.
And oil, yes if you switch to the 0w20 you will get better gas milage and then you can go to every 10k with your changes instead of 5k with 5w20. Now oil changes can differ depending on your driving style and use of the xD. If you do a lot of stop and go traffic you should change it sooner or if you live on a dirt road and if the weather conditions change like they do here in MN.
Also check with your dealership and find out if your warranty will be effected if you do every 10k with 0w20. I know on the 2010 xD's they come with 0w20 so they can go 10k between the changes without a problem but on a 09 they came with 5w20 and it is recomended every 5k.
I hope this helps for you...

I have 29,000 miles on my car I'm due 1K for an oil change, I've done the past 3 myself!
After the first 2 free oil changes! I have been using regular 5W-20 Mobil Clean 5000-and-Pennzoil. I hear Castrol oil is pretty awesome! The oil filter brand's I've used is Wix and Pennzoil!
Either way you can use whatever filter you want but I prefer to use the following in the exact order 1-Wix 2-Pennzoil 3-Mobil 4-Purolator 5-Toyota 6-Fram!
My 2009 tC owners manual says for best fuel economy and cold weather starting 0W-20 should be used but your info says you live in Louisiana AkA hot dirty south as I in Ga, I would suggest you use 5W-20 it has heat endurance!
I hope this helped you!

TRD filters are made by, if I'm not mistaken, Guard Filter Corp. They also make Wix. As far as what oil Toyota uses, that really depends on the dealership, they are not contracted by Toyota to use any specific brand of oil. The one that did my first two oil changes actually uses good ole Castrol!
Really, like is said before, your OCI depends mainly on how you drive your xD. You may need to change it at 5k, you might not need to change it till 10k, it just depends on your driving! I change mine every 8, and I'm approaching 40k on my 08. I also run 5w-20 Royal Purple, which the xD seems to enjoy!
