ECLIPSE AVN6620 DOUBLE DIN NAVIGATION CD/MP3 RECEIVER $899.00 (http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/avn6620overviews.html)
The Eclipse AVN6620 is the latest generation of DVD navigation. This unit has taken the best of last years award winning Eclipse Navigation units and improved in several areas.
This unit features a dual DVD drive. With this feature , you can leave the navigation disc in the unit and never worry about it asking for the Navigation disc. You can also play DVD's while the navigation is going at the same time and with its dual zone capabilities it allows your rear-seat passengers to enjoy a movie, while navigation is running in the front-seat.

The biggest improvement is the 7" High resolution video screen. Previously , manufacturers have been limited to 6.5" screens because of the need to place buttons and controls on the side of the unit.

This unit has 8.76 millions of points-of-interests in the navigation portion. If you need to find the nearest local gas station ;a push of a button the unit will direct you to it. Programming and selecting routes is a snap, and the powerful internal processor means that there is no time lag.

The City Map feature provides you with extra detail in urban areas to more easily pick out buildings and streets. If you want the ultimate in safety, Eclipse has voice guidance which tell you turn by turn without having to take your eyes off the road. This unit also features a high performance DSP with a 7-band EQ, 5 sound field options, and a listening position selector. Three 5-volt RCA preamp outputs will provide more then enough signal power for any amplifier. You can even expand your AVN6620 with optional accessories to control an iPod, receive Bluetooth signals, HD radio or satellite radio.

If you want this years best In-dash Navigation unit, give the AVN6620 a try.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I really like this unit. Does anyone know if my steering wheel controls (2006.5 xB) will still work with this? Do I buy something extra to plug them in or do I need a specific HU for them to work?

They are just soo handy...I would hate to lose them. :blink2:

Thanks again!

if its like the other double din eclipse they plug right in and work like they belong together, toyota and eclipse are owned by the same people in a roundabout way and the plugs in the last versions were the same as the stock plugs.

only true for the double dins though, the single dins werent as easy and you had to wire up to the steering wheel controls yourself, there was a thread on scionlife about this subject

AH! I see. I like quality and style over brands. Low repair rate, lots of features, friendly company to deal with, cute receptionists...and a fair price for what I am getting.

Wait...what are we talking about? :lalala:

Hey did you end up getting the 6620? If so, and assuming you use an iPod, how is the interface with the iPod?

scionxb.org

I haven't ordered it yet. I am researching my favorite models before deciding.

Which ever one I do chose, will be iPod free. I use a few different media players like the Sansa, but not a big Apple fan. From what I have been told though...it should work very well for you if you go that route. I really enjoy plugging my players into my current HU - via the AUX factory plugin located in the center console of my 2006.5 xB.

This does seem to be one sweet HU and one I am seriously considering buying.

Gotcha. Well in terms of Eclipse, I had an older DIN unit in my previous car that I liked a lot. I compared it and a similar Alpine unit using a set of MB Quart speakers. I liked the Eclipse better than the Alpine. Good luck with your choices.

You guys might want to wait until the new models for 08 come out. The big thing read about at ces this year was voice activation. Pionneer is coming out with a voice activation system similar to what ford has with their sync system. I'm going to wait a bit to see what is offered.

I have the 6620 and I had the 6600 and the Pio d3 and eclipse is by far the best double din all in one out there. imo. Great features easy to use great nav and no gyro scope so easy to bypass for movie watching while driving.

What if any accessories do you have with it? Where did you find info on the bypass?

I'm starting to warm up to this one over the Avec-z2. Although the z2 has some voice commands, there are plenty of negative reviews about it. I haven't found much on reviews for the 6620.

I read on C-net they hated the kenwood interface and it pretty much sunk an otherwise great product.

James, any more thoughts on this?

I'm really torn between the Avn6620 and the Avic z2. With all the accessories I want, it pretty much comes out to the same cost. (the eclipse is just a little more with the sirius traffic)

with the Pioneer you have to get the PAC adapter for the steering wheel controls, but the xm traffic is 1/2 the cost of the eclipse sirius traffic. So thats pretty much a wash. The ipod adapter is about the same cost.

Z2 is HDD based. but Eclipse might have been sound quality. And with most of my music on my iPod, will I really benefit from having the hard drive? other than maybe a faster nav?

anyway, I thought I would throw out some more thoughts on this.

Oh well, maybe I'll get to see some of these models at HIN.

Thanks David!

You have some great info and it will help me and others in the end.

At the moment...my mod money went into my budget for Atlanta on March 14-16, so the only thing I have been able to get done is a Valor Exhaust tip and the Megan Strut bar. I have a bunch of Oznium lights that will be installed soon and then off to Atlanta. Then in April, I should be able to do the 2" drop and then in May...the sound system. I will be gathering info until then and watching this thread for anything you figure out. If you find something cool, please post it up.

Thanks again, for the help!

James

I am not a fan of Kenwood. I have had a couple head units and they always seem to skip with lots of bass at loud volumes. I switch HU's and had no issues.

8V Preouts!!! All I can Say is Sick!!! Ive seen this online but I havent head it yet. How does it sound? They dont even have a Sound Processor that puts out 8Volts. Nice!

I have this same deck, nice sounding. As far as 8volts goes, it would be clipping heavily at 8v, mines clean up to 5volts before clipping begins.

damn really it clips that low? Did you check that with a scope?

I <3 my non clipping deck

damn really it clips that low? Did you check that with a scope?

I <3 my non clipping deck

Yes, 8v on this deck(eclipse cd5000) is more marketing than anything, sure it will do it but whats the point if the signal is clipped.....5v is in line with the rest of their higher~end offerings that year and performance wise 5v is still outstanding!

What deck are you running and what's it's MOV?
