I have a 2007 tC that I bought November 2006 brand new with 3 miles on it.
In October 2007 i wrecked the front end but from the receipt of repairs, no damage had been done the the catilyc (sp) convertor. The repair shop however put the wrong coolant. I drove around like that for 3 months before having them flush it out and run the pink one.
My catilyc (sp) convertor is BRIGHT red as opposed to everyone else's that are black. Why? I have done NO modifications to the engine or exhaust what so ever.
Any ideas??

bright red, like glowing hot?
I know running the wrong coolant will cause rust issues and innefective cooling, but that should show up on the temp gauge...does it show that the car is running hotter than usual?
if the catalytic converter is red-hot, I'd stop driving it for a bit...I can't think of what would cause the header to glow red other than serious overheating.
Check that your radiator fans kick on - if not, you have no cooling management, and no air cooling the exhaust when the car is running but stationary. Make sure they plugged in the fans when they fixed the car, and check the relays to make sure they're still good and not burned.

glowing red hot? shit that isnt good, if your temp is alright and cooling system is working, then maybe the cat is being obstructed or broke apart and is clogged.

you may have air pockets too but idk how coolant is related to your cat glowing red.

Uh-oh! I have a question now... Me & my friend both wanted our killerglass to be blue. Since toyota's coolant is pink, we decided to use BMW's coolant which is blue. Is that bad for my tc?

i dont see how it could be "bad", but i would run it by the service manager at your stealership to make sure you wont get shit later.

you have to run pink coolant or prestone "mix with any color" coolant that's like neon green. the wrong coolant won't cool properly, and can cause rusting issues in the radiator. As tempting as it is, it can screw something up and scion won't warranty damage from incorrect coolant.
you could go buy transparent blue hobby paint, and spray the killerglass - any coolant will show up blue lol

Yikes we better get it flushed out then! That would not be so great to have something screw up over wanting my killerglass to be blue. Thanks for the paint idea!

This is what I have been told by a mechanic. Clogged/damaged converter.
In this thread (http://www.scikotics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22411) (which is Mari's thread), there is talk of changing out the coolant with anything that exceeds the Toyota standards as being OK, but again, IDK.
Sarah, if you want to tell me the exact type and brand of the coolant you used, I will look it up and talk with my Toyota dealership for you, or do as others as suggested and verify it with a dealership.
In my opinion, I would not go to your dealership, as they could make a note of it and then, down the road, say that a problem is not covered under warranty because of your coolant mistake...if it is the wrong kind. I think the BMW coolant is actually better than the Toyota specs, so you may be good to go.

All I know is that it is BMW coolant. Kevin would be able to tell you the exact kind I guess. I think there is only one, but I am probably wrong. Thanks so much James! You are soooo helpful! I owe ya Big Bro!
