View Full Version : Hmm...exhaust choices

Well, my birthday is coming up, so it's time to add something new to the tC :)

The problem is, I am indecisive as always when it comes to a substantial purchase. I have my choices roughtly narrowed down to 3, although I'd be open to suggestions of something I may not know about. I'm pretty sure that I just want to get something pre-made (even though I know custom is a great option,) so my dad and I can install it ourselves. The old man loves modifying my car with me, hehe :mrb:

1) Strup axle-back. The Scikotics price is defnitely right, and the sound/looks are great. The only thing is, well it's just axle-back, and I think I'd prefer a full cat-back.

2) A combination of these two- Tsudo Midpipe (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBTOX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320211986410&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI) and a Magnaflow axle-back made by "Trubendz"- which is exactly the same as Creative Compacts/Pro-Motion Tuning (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBTOX%3AIT&viewitem=&item=220111871267&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI) This will give me a full catback at a reasonable cost ($385 combined w/ shipping,) and with a Magnaflow muffler, it shouldn't be overly loud. My main concern would be fitment with the Tsudo pipe, and then there's always the stigma of "Ebay parts" (although plenty of people use Tsudo & the Creative Compacts exhausts and are happy with them. Hell, I got my Fujita CAI off Ebay, and it kicks ass.)

3) Skunk2 catback. This is actually the one I was planning on getting for the longest time, as I love the look of a non-angled canister (why the hell are most tC exhausts slanted? I can't stand that look.) My concern here would be that the exhaust would be too loud while cruising...or too loud period.

Pretty much I want something with a deep, non-raspy tone, that won't drone and resonate while I'm on the highway. My car does not have a header, and probably will not have one in the future. I would prefer one of the catback choices, but the Strup is pretty darn nice too. I'm leaning towards choice 2, but I keep changing my mind. So, I'm throwing this out to my fellow Scikos for some feedback

I have the skunk2 mega power N1 exhaust. It's a good exhaust sounds good and gives decent power. However it's a bit restrictive with my turbo and plan on upgrading to a 3" pretty soon.

i am partial to the megan racing drift spect, cat back for 335, i have been looking at exhausts for about 6 months now, ive looked at all the videos on youtube great way to hear what they sound like, or you could go with the oe-rs axle back paird with the mid pipe.

Sound is just sound, go for one that is designed to be driven hard and gains power. I advise checking out dezod.com or ptuning.com selections.

i agree with you on that, but for some people the look and sound is every thing, me personally im going with a jdm style, so for me the angled up and out can is important, but on a car going for major hp i would go with a high power producing exhaust

Dezod is nice, but pricey...if I had that much money to blow on exhaust, I would, but I don't :lalala:

How's the volume of the Skunk2 inside the car while driving? I've heard sound clips on YouTube (of all 3 of my choices,) but most are just revving from outside.

Most exhausts for the tc are very quiet at idle, almost around stock range. But when you hit the gas it's very responsive has a throaty sound not to ricey. However I'm going to sell mine when i get the ptuning 3" which will be In a month or so.

Yup but quite heavy on the wallet. Chaeper and more effective than buying a 2.25 or 2.5 and then a s-pipe

Nice. It's pretty load until you go F/I. Hope you get the same power gain as I did or better.
