Hey everybody! I am looking at installing a new battery. I always had optima's yellow top in my previous vehicles, but I wanted to know if Blue Top (Marine) Batteries work just the same. I like that it is blue to match the car. I heard from another forum that blue and yellow perform the same, just a different use. Has anyone ever used blue top before in their vehicles (not boats)?

I can't say that I have personally, but I have seen it done. They do appear to work on the exact same premise.

All three should have more than enough Cold Cranking amperage to start our cars. Differences are often terminal locations and CCA's. In your case, you would be safe. Go for it. Just hope that the terminals line up correctly, that would be the only concern..

red top are made to be a starting battery, yellow are just plain deep cycle used to power accesories, blue are marine batteries (they're starting batteries, but have a lower CCA rating, but are made to go longer periods with out being charged)

i personally run two red tops, yellows are meant to run a constant voltage, if you use a yellow as your main battery they generally go bad faster since cranking the car puts such a strain on the battery, red tops are made to handle the stress but usually have a slightly lower running voltage, the red top in my tacoma ran a constant 14v compared to the 14.4v my exide orbital put out

i used to run a red top under the hood and a yellow top for the system, but for some reason the yellow kept dying on me for no reason, we searched for every possible reason for failure and found none, so i used a redtop there and haven't had a problem, the yellows were actually dying in a matter of weeks on me

as for a blue top, i've never used one, however all the vans i've seen in dbdrag and usaci SPL competitions have used a blue top with a HO altenator, that is for the ones who are competing in the single battery classes, when asked the owners simply said they seem to recharge faster than a red or yellow after they run them, i haven't seen any documentation supporting this, this is simply from their mouths, and these are the guys in the top 5 spots at the world finals every year, so i assume they know what they're talking about

You should be fine with any of them, i run the red top and I love it!! Although be aware you need the spacer(should be included) to use the factory mounts in a tC.
