one step colder for your setup.

2 steps colder are for high boost applications with nitrous.

NGK makes some I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they recommend iridium plugs only on the tc? I can't imagine why it would matter, but I remember reading that on an underhood sticker once.

Yea, you want to stick with iridium plugs. I have heard good things about going with 2 step colder plugs in turboed tC's.

or 2 step ?

also .. where the hell can i buy them ?

i went to autozone and pepboys and neither place had them.

online only - unless you know where a speed shop is in your area. They're not easy to come by.

but I found some online for you...$25 for the set

www.garage1217.com - they sell NGK & Denso plugs. 1, 2, and 3 step colder. I use Denso IK24's (2 step colder).

Def. go with the two step. I've heard some preignition problems even on apps runing 7 psi. The only downside are the cold carbon deposits on the threads, which can be cleaned with brake cleaner. There may be red tinting of the ceramic that the tip sits on but thats due to the additives in fuel and completely harmless.

the only difference is the amount of surface area exposed to the combustion process - colder plugs have less exposed area, which means they don't heat as easily, and dissipate heat more effectively. Each step colder removes 70-100* from the combustion chamber, but you have to keep the plugs at at least 500*, or the carbon deposits will pile up, fouling the plug. So given your situation, I'd personally start with 1 step colder - if you go 2 steps colder, you remove up to 200* from the combustion chamber, but if you're no longer producing 500* from combustion, then your plugs are gonna get fucked up. That's why 2 and 3 step are usually reserved for high boost apps that produce significantly more heat. Normal opperating temps are between 500* and 850* - so keep in mind when you're taking away 200*, you're on the edge of that "ok" range.

Well said. I'm pushing 14psi right now and the fouling isn't that bad and I do a PM inspection every 2 months. No problems so far.

wow 14 psi .... on a fully built motor ? or all stock ?

I'm running 2 step colder that I got from Dezod.com, and I'm currenlty only at 6psi.

I'm only at 6-9 PSI and I run 2 steps colder. The carbon buildup isn't bad at all.

6-9?? thats a big jump.

you using a MBC? 3psi is a huge leap, and will throw off any tune you have...why such a large range?

I'm using an EBC, and I have the F/IC which tunes off boost, so I'm going to get tuned at 9 and then have my other setting at 6, which will still be in part of the 9 map. I was running a smaller spring cause I did not have a good tuner, and olaHalo is running the same kit fine at 8.7psi, so I gotta out do him a little!

Plus, Paul and Joe from Dezod are gonna be tuning me, so I think I'm good!

Partial built with a standalone and 880cc injectors.

sorry, mr. meaty - that was directed at Nick.

and binder, are you running like 30% duty cycle? lol 880cc seems nuts for only 14psi.

It's really all the turbo can take. It can handle up to 320 horse. I have a t3/t4 setup on the way right now. But the setup is working pretty well. Yea I agree it's too low but not causing any harm, no codes:grin:. When I get the new turbo setup I'll push for 80-92% duty cycle the max on those size injectors on a stock fuel rail.

Yeah it's a basic MBC and it tends to boost spike... I hit 9PSI then it settles to 6.5.

 I must have been thinking of a different thread where I actually mentioned that I was going to push it to 9psi here soon!

I read back and it made no sense why I even responded to that comment from what I said in this thread! :rofl2:
My bad.
