Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.

Sure, I can recognize the amount of skill and ingenuity it would take to shoehorn a Chevy 350 into a Scion, but it goes against everything Scion stands for.

Boooooo.

it may go against everything scion stands for. however have you forgoten where you live?? this is the land of inbreeding. like say o i dont no a sr20 in a civic. or prehaps a 350 in a ford ranger it just does not make sence but hey it gets dun often just sit back and see what else makes you go huh!!!

How does customizing a Scion how YOU want go against everything Scion stands for? Thats all they stand for.

Gee, I dunno. Maybe because driving a Scion shows you can still have fun without increasing American dependence on foreign oil, contributing to the death of thousands of my brothers and sisters in arms in this oil war. Honestly, the paperwork for purchasing a V-8 vehicle ought to come with an enlistment contract for the Army. If you want to be a V-8 meathead, grow a mullet and buy a Trans Am. Of course, people have the right to do whatever they want with their cars, but I also have the right to point out that they are ass clowns.

Also, it only confirms our image in the international community as a bunch of neanderthals when the ultimate expression of American automotive creativity is to repeatedly shove a decades old design, overhead valve, pushrod engine into anything we can get our hands on, with no consideration for the overall spirit of the design.

"Golly, Cletis, whadaya reckon we ought to do with that thar Scion?"

"I'll tell ya whut, Billy Bob, we'll put a Chevy small block in it!"

"Ain't that what we always do, Cletis?"

"Shore is. And when we're done, we can watch the new Larry the Cable Guy DVD!"

woah woah woah

hold on to your panties right there buddy...

not everyone that likes V8 power is a "mullet growing trans am driver"

I dont know if you have looked into oh... say... the bow tie club of America you would find just as many affluent american individuals if not more into the American custom car scene than just bubba and cletus... maybe you should pull your head out of the sand and take a look at the state of the country... fuck, if it wasnt for large V8 engines using the gas then the country wouldnt make any fucking money, why... because, if you havnt checked lately... everything that you buy *GASP* was not made in America... if it wasnt for the few American car companies that are still producing cars and still selling cars, we would all be sitting around with our thumbs up our asses...

and also, your little comment about "the ultimate expression of American automotive creativity is to repeatedly shove a decades old design, overhead valve, push rod engine into anything we can get our hands on" is because people have profected the art of dealing with those engines... hell, if you spent 20+ years of your life modifying small block Chevy's, our sure as hell not going to up and change everything just because of a few piss ants with tiny, high revving, no torque 4 bangers...

honestly... can you get off your high horse and accept that on a creative scale of 1-10 this is a 14... who would have the skill, thought... or hell, even the balls to do something like this... you sure as hell dont... so why dont you just crawl back into your little hole with all your bolt ons, shove your head back up inside your ass, and get away from the keyboard... or atleast have the balls to say this shit in public, around the guy who owns the vehicle...

don and jorge im behind you on this one...the frickin mottom slogan trademark or w/e you wanna call it that scion uses is the phrase "what moves you" it obviously moved this dude to put a v8 in his xb....leave him alone and quit hatin...and when you buy a v8 it needs to come with a military contract  come on man

Ok, ok, ok, I guess I came off a bit harsh. I can admit that. I'm sorry. It's just that I'm a pretty recent vet (U.S. Navy May '02 to May '07, served on USS Enterprise March '03 to May '07, two combat deployments to the gulf in support of OEF/OIF) and it kills me every time I see an Excursion with a "Support Our Troops" sticker on the back. Sometimes I just overreact about shit like this. I think you can all see my point here, but I admit that the way in which I conveyed it was overly confrontational and therefore an ineffective delivery. Apologies. Can we be friends now?

We can surely be friends...because no matter how many engine swaps I've done, I do not now nor have I ever had a mullet!!

I think that I take more offense to the suggestion that if we don't drive a 30+ mpg vehicle that we are not supporting our troops, or that we are somehow helping to finance this war. My father-in-law drives a vette...mother-in-law an Expedition...my dad an F150...and I recently put a 350 in an S10. But you can damn well believe that from the minute my son stepped foot on the bus heading towards Parris Island until the minute he stepped off the airplane just back from Iraq.....we not only supported and prayed for him...but for every man and women that has done or ever will do the same.

To suggest that simply because someone decides to purchase and drive a V8 powered vehicle, they are contributing the the deaths of your brothers and sisters in arms is ridiculous. Without jumping too far into a political debate with you, I'll add just this much. With the current administration, we could all be driving around in a Toyota Prius getting 50mpg and you can bet your last drop of foreign oil that our troops would still be exactly where they are today. I am absolutely and completely grateful for your service to this country. If you knew me then you would know that I am sincere about that. However, let's not be so quick to blame someone with ingenuity and incredible mechanical skills or someone that just happens to prefer buying 3 times as much gas as we do for our Scions, on the messed up status of this country, its government, or the misuse of it's military forces.

BTW....my father-in-law's Vette gets almost 30mpg on the highway!!
