So i have 5,000 dollars to put into my motor. I was thinking turbo than i thought well ill read some threads and see whatsup with the turbos. I think ive found that a turbo on an automatic is a pain, but i dont wanna super charge it so what do you guys think i should invest my money into motor wise???

go turbo brotha.. it's a pain, but your gonna be really happy with the results a turbo brings. supercharger nahhhhh

the only supercharger i'd recommend is a custom built one from BLitz, but they will most likely charge around 3,000 just for the supercharger, the extra 2k can probably be used for fuel management and intercooler stuffige...

you can do alot with 5 k .. you can rebuild and go all motor. or just get a fat ass turbo.

plus you never have to shift .. yay ..

I don't get why everyone is so concerned about turboing an auto? There are a few small fitment issues if I remember correctly and the transmission itself is only a concern at 300+ hp. There are plenty of turbocharged autos out there making good power and having minimal problems. Go turbo, you won't be disappointed.

i was informed that blitz make the superchargers for trd and they are not allowed to sell tc superchargers. but i may be wrong.

True. turbo chared auto's are quicker than standard cars. less turbo lag with them. theres nothing wrong with turboing a auto. you may need a tranny cooler and that may help your tranny's life. but i would do more research on it.

I've got a turbo auto with no issues.

It's gonna cost you a bit more than $5k to do everything properly though so keep saving.

Plus you're in CA. Turbos aren't carb legal so you can get into a ton of trouble.

whats another option for gaining a fair amount of horse power without the turbo. I mean dont get me wrong a tc with a turbo is like what ive wanted since i purchased my car, but what other options are available to me?

Pretty much all that you have is turbo, supercharger, build the motor, or put nitrous on it.

dezod or custom i would say....im making a custom kit so far its going to run me about 4 not including getting it tuned....Dezod kit is nice it come wiht everything you need..all intructions, install kit, tranny cooler, emanage,,the whole 9 yards and i believe its like 4500....custom is cheaper but more of a pain in the ass with fitment and stuff hence why its custom...personally i would go with dezod...or there is turbonetics..there kits are a lil more expensive though. Only things you need for a auto tc thats turbo is tranny cooler and the oil dipstick needs to be moved a lil bit along with a bolt that needs to be moved about a 1/4 over..not to hard at all!

Yea, I plan on doing my own tune on the highway. Remember, most of your tuning will be at partial throttle, not wide open throttle. Once I get the tuning pretty close, I might go to a dyno just to make sure I have everything dialed in correctly and to get my actual numbers recorded.

As far as companies, I would say either Dezod or TurboToyotas. Dezod has been around for a long time and they know what they are talking about when it comes to turbos. Paul is a great guy to talk to and always willing to answer questions. TT is somewhat newer, but already has a loyal fan base and known for their reliable setups. I would say contact both companies and see what systems they recommend for an A/T.

Nothing wrong with Turboing a auto as everyone has stated. I say Tnetic of course. It comes with evrything you need except the tranny cooler and the tune on the unichip out of the box is setup pretty safely. Plus for a small fee you can add a 3yr/36K powertrain warranty if your worried about your tranny. Ive had mine on for a yr now and 30k+ Miles and no issues yet. You wont be disappointed with the feel of it. Tnetics=:up:

so should i get a smaller turbo or a larger one?

Wouldnt ask that question since alot of ppl have mixed opinions on the pros and cons of big or small.Basicly from wat Ive read:
Dont quote me...

Big=bigger gains, lag
small= faster spool, lower gains

I like the t3/t4 50 trim that comes with my tnetics kit. I dont really feel any lag from it. and the the spool up is pretty nice.

Also if you havent read this is a good source of info http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=140610

that sticky in SL is very very informative read all of them haha...turbo for an AT is very do-able just need a few extras such as tranny cooler....and i believe you dont get to hear the bov until you let off the gas for the auto...not like the manual where you hear it everytime you shift is that correct?

Personally, I am from the "small turbo fan club". In my opinion, unless your car is for the strip or a dyno queen, you don't really need a big turbo. For most people who daily drive or frequently drive their car, they want the power for on the street. This being said, the quicker spool-up is beneficial because you get the power sooner after hitting the throttle. My personal choice is the 16g turbo. Small and extremely quick spooling, yet will provide solid power through the RPM range.

k so i should get a smaller turbo with either tnetics or dezod sounds right?

fightinsk8ers
01-17-2008, 02:15 PM
well tnetics and dezod use larger turbos than the 16g...they both use a t3/t4 turbo...Im not really sure about the difference all that much, someone else can chime in here but...the 16g spools a lil bit quicker..the only company that i know of that was making the 16g was zpi and they are no longer around

there is no option for a smaller turbo on the tnetics or dezod kits...gotta build your own if you want a 16g nowadays...or just get a ball bearing turbo - you'll never notice the difference.

Yes - I don't hear my BOV until I let off the gas. That's what's nice about autos - they keep the boost even while shifting!

Dezod has several turbo size options on their turbo kits. You can go from a 42 trim to a 62-1 Trim I believe. I'm not sure how the Mitsubishi TD05H-16G and -18G compare though. -18G pushes 600cfm.

Depends on the power you're looking for. On the Dezod Signature series (http://www.dezod.com/pd_dezod_motorsports_signature.cfm) turbo, i'd most likely say go for the Innovative T3/T4 50 trim .48 A/R. Eric - what's your input?

ok well i want 250 hp and a bb turbo so it spools up faster...and remember i am automatic...will eventually build up trans...just a tranny cooler for the time being though

mospeedtc
01-19-2008, 10:55 PM
No need to build tranny unless ur gonna do ALOT more than just a turbo kit. 250 HP will be reached with just about any kit. Most give you 210-220 WHP I would say Tnetics or dezod. I think the tnetic one is more complete though, unless you call dezod and set it all up I think.

Dezod is complete.... it even comes with a tranny cooler.
