Hey guys i'm getting ready to order my wheel's in 17x8.5 5x100 ET +44 and i'm looking to pair them up with Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec tires in 255/40/17. I am currently dropped on TRD springs but will be upgrading to coilovers most likely by the end of this year or in october.

My question is: As the car stands now on TRD spring do any of you wheel gurus think i will rub ? I've been told before that i should be fine and when i upgrade to coils i can pretty much raise it up a little if i need to, but before coils will TRD spring do just fine ?

255 is a fat tire lol

stock tc 17s are 215/45 if im not mistaken

well stock tc's are also 17x7 and not 17x8.5. The reason why i'm getting rims that wide is for sole purpose of rider as wide of a tire as i can for the most traction i can get. My car is not stock and very far from being stock.. let's just say it's fully built and i NEED all the traction i can get.

no i understand wanting a wider rim trust me lol
im just saying that a 255 is quite a bit wider than you need a 215 tire can fit up to 8in wide so a 225 or 235 would be more than enough a 255 would be better suited to a 10in or wider wheel

1.4" drop IIRC

Hit up YourSciontC.com. I know there are a couple guys on there that run 255s. For reference, I run 225/40s on my 18x8 rims and they are still pretty meaty. The new rims I'm getting later this week are gonna be 8" wide too, but will be wrapped in 205/45.
