Saw plenty of cars at Scion Exposed in IN last weekend with painted silver interior trim pieces, either matching the body or an accent. I plan to do the same, but wondering how difficult to remove the silver pieces?
Door window switch panels, steering wheel piece, the two big pieces in the center of the dash. Just pop off? Hard/easy to get at?

Everything is fairly easy to get off except the far right vent ring, you will need a long handle phillips. the trim on the steering wheel can be a little tricky. on the back of the steering wheel you will see 2 openings, you will need a torx wrench to remove those 2 bolts, this will allow a little wiggle room for the airbag...as a precaution, disconnect the battery first.

the center console: you pull all three knobs off first then their should be screws behind them, take out the screws then pull on it from the top vent holes and it should pop off, after that disconnect the two or three plugs on the back side and it should be free after that

Sweet. Weekend project coming up. Now to decide what kind of paint is best. Guessing regular old Krylon, doesn't seem like I need the vinyl-type paint since this is hard plastic.

I too want to do this but I want a custom color so I am guessing I will have to have it done professionally. Any other ways around that?

depends how good you trust your self on painting it? but most likely professionally is your best bet for custom depending on what it is

blue painters tape. flat black krylon is what i used. and git a dish scrubb spong to scuff the silver instead of sand paper that way it has sompthing to stick to clean em up then paint away

I feel good about my ability to paint it...it's just going to be a solid color...but it's not a color that I can get at the store. It's going to have to be made. I've painted interiors of my cars before and they turned out real nice. Just not sure how to make it happen with the custom color.

Thinking it's going to be a dark red, as an accent on the dark grey. Here we go......

Last pieces to do are the two steering wheel pieces. Saw some notes for a 2nd gen that sound like I have to take the wheel apart. How about a square xB? They feel like they should just pop off.

i believe there are two bolts on the back side of the steering wheel. you'll have to disconnect the battery and be careful with the airbag when pulling the front off.
i haven't done this yet. it's the only silver parts i don't have red.
