No i did not do the painting myself, I had a local body shop do it... As far as the prep work I found a heavy cleaner and just rubbed all the glue and foam off with that, actually that was the easy part... The hard part was trying to get them smooth... I will see if I still have my in process pics but they just looked like a standard cloth panel prior to working on them.

just wondering what it took to do it.

Project_tc07
01-12-2008, 06:36 PM
Had to remove the door panel... Then on the back side of the panel there are 19 plastic welds that hold in the fabirc panel. I used a dremel drill bit and drilled out each weld to break the panel loose... At that point the panel will pull right out... Then I took out all the staples that held the fabric on, pulled the fabric off... With the fabric off there will be glue and foam residue on the panel... I took a rag and some grease remover and rubbed the panel clean... Sent the panel to the body shop to paint... For reassembly put the panel back in place on the door panel... The welds that u drilled out have to be resecured. I used a combination of screws and washers to secure the ones on the long sides... For the ones in the corners I used a hot glue gun and resecured them... Be careful and make sure u hold the glue spots in place so that u have no gaps when the glue dries... Then just snapped the door panel back on!

01-14-2008, 06:59 PM
so you just removed the fabric and painted the plastic? hows the gaps at the top now since you dont have the fabric.

Project_tc07
01-14-2008, 07:09 PM
Actually the gaps are very minimal if at all in some places. It just took some time to make sure it was all perfectly lined up before I secured them back together!
