I can't point you toward the right thread really quickly, but I found one on SL that told me how to do mine. If you have the 08-10 grille, it has two spots (one top, one bottom) where the tab is melted so that it can't just "pop" out. Otherwise it does just pop out after you have cut those tabs away. If there aren't any other hits on this after I'm off work, I'll find you some info.

Okay it's a little tricky to find a how to actually, haha!
I actually recommend removing the bumper for removal of the 08-10 grille because I did it and it was A LOT easier to see the melted clips to cut them. Were you doing the top, bottom, or both? They're clipped on the same way.

It's not THAT hard that you need to remove the front bumper for. These things literally do just pop out.

The 05-07 upper grill just pops out. All I did was make a fist and just kinda did a lil back hand move to the corners. No reason at all to remove the bumper

They are all melted in on the top grille, some better then others. I couldnt get mine to budge until I hit a bird doing about 80 one day. It knocked one side out and made it alot easier to get the rest. The bottom and sides just have some tricky clips.

The sides are actually super easy. I can reach down into the lower bumper thought the hole behind the headlights and up clip those ones.

What the hell are you? An Orangatang???
The 05-07 top grille isnt melted together
The 08-10 top grille is melted together
The 05-10 bottom grille just pops out
The 05-10 side air vent covers have a tab behind them which needs to be pulled to release them
I didnt bother cutting them off, I just pushed harder and harder while holding the bumper in.. But I wouldn't advise doing it that way.. Just find the two tabs and use a razorblade to slice them off.. Once that is done, then they pop off... In any case, no need to take the bumper off just for the top...
This can now be called the official grille replacement thread! lmao.. :mrblue:

Nope, but I was able to reach in and PUSH the tabs inward to remove the one on the driver's side. I thought about leaving it open for the intake to catch more air. I've decided it's not a good look for the time being...

Mine is an 07 and there were at least two spots on the top grille that were melted together. The bird busted one and I had to pick at the other one with a screwdriver for a sec to get it the rest of the way out. I am pulling my grille out again this weekend to do some finishing touches on it. I will snap a pic of the two clips.

So just to let you all know, I did pop the grille out... it was sooooo easy... Took like two seconds... I didnt have to cut or snap anything, I guess scion forgot to melt my clips haha... So anyways I get the old one out and go to compare them, yeah they are different... So I was like well Ill try it anyways... It didnt fit... I looked on the grille itself, it said 04-07, I have an 09 so yet another ebay mess up.... YAY! good thing is instead of shipping it back, one of my fellow scikos is going to by it off me...
Thanks for all the help and yes people it just pops out hahaha

That's weird... The bumper itself didn't change. The grill design did. They should be interchangeable. I feel like the grille you got might have been poorly made or something. Ebay does that though. What grille did you get?

That is weird. I have an '09 upper and lower grill and my tC is an '06. No fitment problems at all.

I dont know what the problem was... It just didnt fit right, it didnt clip in right... if it did it was short... and the edges didnt come out far enough in the corners.... i sold it to some guy that came up to my work and saw it chilling on my counter while i was explaining to a friend that it wouldnt fit mine and he offered me 50 bucks for it for his 05 and i only paid 35 for it so i was like ok deal... so if anything ill try a different out... let me know what grilles you guys have and where you got yours for an 09... Thanks

Because there is no such thing. The tC was built there, but it was never sold there, so there is no Japanese Domestic Market product for the tC.

Lay on your side in front of the car and use your foot to push the center of the grille.. Once you feel it pop, it should come right out...

Again, I took my bumper off, but I also needed to do it to drill some holes for my new grille anyways. I find that it's easy and rewarding to take the bumper off. That was the first mod that I did to my car on my own and it was good to learn more about the car because, if you're like me, you know you'll be taking the bumper off again at some point, haha!
