yes, the box i have mine in is the smallest box you can do for 2... it takes up my whole hatch... im gona rebuild and glass one hopefully before summer that will be closer to 5^3ft. (use every nook and cranny) :wallb:

Yeah, Im going with 3, 1 of which will be inverted... in a ported box... and well... im gonna have to use every little bit of space that my xB has in the rear seat area

Luc1f3r

box they come in? they are usually sealed, L7s sounds best in a ported box... if you buy an "off the shelf" ported box for L7s it will prolly be too small (which can damage the subs) or too big and not fit in the hatch area. (i honestly dont know how i got mine in) and my new one will be built in the car, as there will be no way to drop it in.

shipping and prices would be less if you bought else where and making a box would only cost you $30 (most) for material and a day - 2 days max for labor. (day = 4 hours lol)

material =
3/4 mdf (double up for the baffles)
1.5" wood screws
wood glue
chalk/ silicone/ sealant
spray paint/ carpet

kickers website even has cut by cut directions for 3 different sized boxes...

fightinsk8ers
01-06-2008, 11:15 PM
where can you get the mdf from and what other websites have the L7s for cheap

ROFL Box

MDF can be had at hoe depot

no, im in arkansas, the only group that does sound offs in my area (that i know of) is DB for Dollars. and they class cars based on retail cost of the amp ($1000) and im in the $1000-$1500 class, most of the guys in my class have suvs or vans with 2-5 12"s one guy in my class has 3 18"s

at the finals when i got 151.7 3rd place was 156.X and first was 161.x, but it sounds good driving down the road and thats what matters!

Luc1f3r

dynamate extreme

5 layers on the hatch (wont stay open anymore without aid)
2 on the hatch floor
3 on the hatch walls
2 on the walls of the rear seats
2 on the floor under the rear seat
3 on each door
1 on the fire wall
none under the front seats (too lazy to pull the front seats.)

pedestal spoiler still rattles. :(

Holy thread revival Batman! lol This thread is over a year and a half old man!

I know a couple guys with these subs and honestly, I'm not impressed by them at all. Every single one I've seen, the glue that holds the surround usually gives which to me says that Kicker is making money on cheap products. Not to mention that if you blow one, you're stuck with it because Kicker uses odd sized voice coils which can be custom made but it'll cost a grip to get them like that. Personally, I'll never buy Kicker but that's just me.

also, unless its a SOLO X...you wont find any square cones for it either.

Unless you got the right person doing the recone! The cone can be salvaged but it takes a steady hand and someone who's done a few recones in their day.:)

I have alpine type r's and they arnt bad. They are a decent daily sub that you can throw 500-600 rms at they they perform decent.

Thats what I use now is 2 Type-R 10s with a PDX 1000.1 amp. I used to have a Type-X, AMAZING sub!!! Sadly, I blew it... I had the gain on the PDX set a little too high and started clipping, I didn't hear it (cause I wasn't paying attention) and it blew.

I still have it, but its nothing more than a paperweight...

i want bass i have the treble and mids covered i jus need tha right kinda bass

what type of music do you listen to? stuff like rock and metal or techno you'd actually might want to go with 10's or possibly 8's for quicker 'kick' response. i used to have 8's and there was no lag when it came to constant kick from double-bass peddle from the drummer and same when i had 2-10's.

if you aren't wanting too much bass and just something to compliment the mid's and high's alpine type r's aren't bad, kicker cv-r's, jl's (i'd stay away from sony, fosgate and jbl as their newer stuff, especially on the low end is getting really cheap and bad quality lately).

best place to get these fairly good priced is hifisoundconnection.com or sonicelectronics.com and sometimes hookedontronics.com that's where i've bought all of my audio stuff in past and present; especially hifisoundconnection for my l5's and my 4channel

One good 15 ported on about 1k will give you plenty of bass with room to spare.

Dude all the lower end stuff is built pretty much from the same parts and everyones lower end stuff is cheap and bad quality. JBL actually makes one of the best subs on the mainstream market right now. Never buy JL, bottom line. All their stuff is over priced and will get out performed by most stuff in the same price bracket. I have a 15" sub that will beat the hell out of a 13w7 anyday of the week plus I paid $200 to get it custom built. You can't even buy a used 13w7 for that price. Anyways, my point is that if you're gonna go with the low end of the an audio companies line, it won't matter which company you go with, their won't be much difference if any between them all in the same price range.

Also, I've said it before and I'll say it again man, the size of the sub doesn't matter no matter what kind of music you listen to! A 15" JBL GTOIII will outperform most 10's and 12's when it comes to listening to rock, rap, pop, and just about any other music you throw at it. People here are so biased againts big subwoofer that they lead people a stray and it's probably because they don't know the difference or have never actually tested it. It's usually because they just heard it from somebody else though. Anyways, like I said, if you're gonna go with the lowest end stuff (aside from Wal Mart of course) the brand won't even matter man. Just get something that will be a good match to the amp you want.

If you can find JL cheap, don't be dissuaded from them. The only complaint I hear is that they are overpriced which is true. I'm running a pair of 8w7's and they more than do the job. One was used and one was from sonicelectronics, both bought at well under 50% what JL MSRP is. NEVER go to Crutchfield except for wiring harness adapters. I happen to like JL because it's not the loudness, there are louder subs out there, it's the dynamic range. They sound good throughout the frequency band. Also, I only had 9 1/2" of mounting width, so I was pretty much limited to 8's, and JL does have the highest displacement for that size.

The main thing to look at with a 15" is box space needed. Volume-wise, it may be smaller than two 12's, but dimension wise it is harder to fit. A box that's too square or too shallow will affect sound even with the correct volume, plus the minimum mounting depth is increased with the larger woofer.

Bottom line, get what fits your trunk and budget. Unless you're doing SPL competitions, any recognized brand should work, and a few of the smaller ones you may not have heard of like Memphis, Image Dynamics, etc. I personally don't like Rockford Fosgate because they underperfom compared to the competition, and MTX is geared to SPL, not SQL.
