well guys i thought i'd let u all know i'm starting my new build. Its going to be a pretty big undertaking for me and should be pretty bad ***. lets start with the system diagram.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/system.jpg

now lets get to the components:

alpine dva-7996 *purchased in hands*
alpine c-701 *purchased in hands*
alpine h-701 *purchased in hands*
SAVV 10.2" monitor *need to purchase*
elemental designs nine.1 *owned from previous install*
elemental designs nine.1 *need to purchase*
elemental designs nine.2x *need to purchase*
elemental designs 13av.2 *pre-order*
elemental designs 13av.2 *pre-order*
DLS Iridium 8.3i's *need to purchase - need to rob a bank*
optima yellowtop *owned from previous install*
(2) kinetic hc1800's *need to purchase*

i plan on doing two runs of power wire as well as mounting the two batteries in the trunk. The 13av.2's will be ported (you will see soon) and the rear seat will be removed. I'm anticipating this install taking 2-3 months as it will compete with my social life (girlfriend), school and my new job. i'm just putting this up as to really to answer a lot of questions i've been getting as well as remind me daily that i need to get this going. I'm going to start on the dash which will be a fun time as i want to put the two headunits as well as the monitor in the dash. I will keep you all updated as i make progress

1-1-08
well lets start with an update, i got the two units in and the sound is amazing. i have the monitor ordered and the next step is going to be to center the headunits better and then start glassing the dash once the mount for the monitor comes in. not much to show here other than the two units together
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/photo-1.jpg

1-2-08
Well got the monitor in today and wow its gigantic. i'm going to have to rethink how to do this its going to present some issues but i think i know what i'm going to do. here are the pics

here are the two headunits side by side

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2782.jpg

here is the h701

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2783.jpg

here is the monitor still in the box. very very nice

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2785.jpg

here is the dilema... its almost wider than the whole unit so i dunno what to do yet but i think i have an idea. I'm going to start cutting here in about 15 min and figure it all out

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2787.jpg

ok so i modified the stock bracket for the two units to sit out and up a bit so they weren't on the bottom of the bracket here is where i decided to locate it

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/IMG_2788.jpg

then i am going to fiberglass a double din trim plate to the location of the two units. so i needed to cut some space so i would have some place to glass

and here it is

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/IMG_2789.jpg

next step is tofinish mounting the 7996 and then glass in the trim panel. should be the end of the day. after i get the area glassed roughly i'm going to draw my attention to the monitor. it will fit its just a matter of positioning right but i think i'll be able to do it.

well here is the next step i put both the units in and then i taped in the trim panel and then am going to start glassing here it is.

both units in the stock location slightly raised up and out (much easier to see and use)

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2790.jpg

Trim panel taped in.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2791.jpg

glassing begins now.

initial glassing is done. i'm pretty happy with it fitment seems really good on the test fit. its getting dark and a old friend is coming into town so i'm probably done for the day. tomorrow is going to deal with the monitor

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2792.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2793.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2794.jpg

payoff

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/IMG_2795.jpg

UPDATE: 1-3-08

well after alex called me i was quite motivated and decided to get up pretty early and figure out how the **** this monitor is gonna work so this is what i came up with.

monitor mount laid in to figure out where to cut

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/001.jpg

lines drawn

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/002.jpg

cutting

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/005.jpg

and finally i think the monitor is going to sit like this

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/003.jpg

god **** i'm white. i need to make sure this is where i want it but i think this is where its going to sit

well after the morning i got the bottom glassed in. i had to trim the top panel quite a bit but its really turning out. i'm going to pay attention to the top and sides this afternoon and then sanding will begin

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/006.jpg

after initial glassing
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/008.jpg

after a heafty sand job to even it all out
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e350/nebster530/08%20stereo%20install/009.jpg

well last little update for the day.

i got the top part done. i'm going to just add another layer of fiberglass tonight and sand some maybe tomorrow but i'm heading over to eD so i wanted to show them all. here are the pics from this afternoon

well after a weekend off spending time with the woman and some of the guys at eD i got to some sanding today. Not much to show, i went to napa and they were out of duraglass so i have to wait till tomorrow to get some so not much will be done today but you can see the progress, its much more smooth.

threw on a thin coat of primer and then really wanted to figure out where i had spots. the duraglass came in today and i put the first coat on. its really starting to smooth out nicely and after a couple sand / fillers i should be able to do more primer and start some rage finishing. oh well here are pics from yesterday and today

Nebster

its not two headunits. it was addressed in the thread but the top one is a dva 7996 which is a dvd, ipod, radio, cd etc... and the bottom one is the c701 which is the h701 5.1 surround sound processor.

lol sounds good man. i've learned a lot from this endevor but have realized i will never do something like this again unless i get paid a pretty large chunk of change. i was quoted 1800 for the dash alone from a local shop so we'll see how it turns out. for only two days of work i'm pretty impressed with myself

dont see it in your diagram or plans, but what center channel are you going with, and where are you going to put it? seems like a waste of the H if you dont add one...

and check my other comment on SL about placement...

no center channel or center speaker. if you have owned any alpine unit you'll see the lack of tuning from their unit. the h701 is pretty much necessary if you want to do any tuning which i plan to do a lot of.

I agree with whom-ever said that it was a waste of the H to not have a center channel.

Instead of spending all of that money on things you aren't going to use, why not buy a nice dead-head unit like the clarion piece, or even the alpine F#1 for processing....makes no sense to me to pay for features you will never use. Running 1 source unit would look cleaner as well. Yes I understand the otherone is the controller for the H, but why mount it in the open? I think I would've dropped it in the center console under the lid.

have you ever used a basic alpine unit? there is no eq to it at all. bass and trebel level but no xover no slope setting no nothing. why out in the open? because i wanted to play with it. and the dva7996 / h701 / c701 was way cheaper than a f#1 unit. i'm paying for a ton of features i plan on using not out of want but out of necessity. Down the road if i want to put in a center channel i can but right now i'm really not wanting to put a speaker in my dash. yeah for 5.1 is badass but i don't even have rear speakers..... what would be the point of putting a center channel in.

Once again what would be the point of using something i have no need for using your argument

TunerTrifecta
01-16-2008, 01:16 PM
I wasn't trying to start a fight bro, calm down.

I have used a basic Alpine unit before--remember, I do this stuff for a living. I run an older CDA9830. It has a fairly nice EQ for being built in, and a HP/LPF. Granted, these features are not as sophisticated as an external DSP, they're still there.

I 100% understand the whole no rear speakers thing, and I can understand not using a center channel as well, because as far as my opinion goes, 5.1 in a car is flat stupid.

My argument, as you call it, was why buy the h701, which is mainly a 5.1 processor, when you really just wanted a DSP? I just think going with the high-end clarion deck (don't remember the model number off the top of my head), or any other dead-head audiophile deck, would've been a better way to go.

Did you look into the DVA 9965?

Nebster
01-16-2008, 01:52 PM
yeah i looked at a ton of decks. i wanted dvd / cd / mp3 and shit for a reasonable cost and the 7996 was the only one i could find. putting the h701 c701 and the 7996 costed much less than anything else i could find while still giving me some great sq which alpine is known for. I also like alpines old school decks a lot more than their new stuff. i wanted to keep all my sound processing uniform which is why i went with alpine. i could have gone clarion or pioneer but decided with the alpine

TunerTrifecta
01-16-2008, 05:11 PM
ew on pioneer for SQ.

Clarion makes a REALLY nice SQ deck, but it runs around 2500.

The Alpine DVA 9965 is around 1600 retail, but you can find it for cheaper on ebay and what not. That deck is INCREDIBLE. Probably the deck I'll end up with when I replace my 9830--it's starting to wear down on me after 4-5 years and 4 cars haha.

I may end up moving my deck down to the pocket behind the shifter, and put a double din unit (probably the w200, not a fan of the 205) in the stock radio location. I've already found a spot for my Sirius Stiletto; I'm gonna knock out the change holder thing and the front cup holder and glass in a flush mount dock with a slide cover. I'll post pics when I get started on it, probably soon :)

Other than what I already said bro, I'm impressed. Work looks good! Good luck with the whole install, it's a-gonna be a big'un!!!
