I got an Alpine amp and two Alpine 10's for my custom box and I wanna slap this shit together this weekend...

my question is - what's the recommended AWG rating for the wires running from the amp to the subs?

My amp is a 400W mono amp (I know, don't bother telling me I need to change it - I'm not in this for SPL competitions lol), and I have two Type E's. I have all the Monster cables to run power and signal...I just gotta buy the wire to connect my subs to my amp, and need to know what gauge wire to buy.

Thanks.

Myself I always like to run the bigger monster wire speaker wires that they sell. To big can only be bad when it doesnt fit.

8 gauge to the amp if your only pushing 400 watt max...

if your pushing more then 400 watts go 4 gauge.

8 gauge TO the subs from the amp? wtf are you guys smoking? lol

I was asking about the wires from the amp TO the subs - but it doesn't matter cause I bought 16 gauge speaker wire...we'll see what happens.

I do want to know how to connect my massive 8 gauge power wire to the tiny amp connection...am I missing a part or something? There's no way this 1/2" hole is going to work on a 1/8" screw connector.

12 ga. would be more then sufficient. any bigger and you are throwing your money away, at least on your setup. if you had say 5000 watts going to the subs then I would say bigger wire, but 12ga would be fine.

you will be fine with the 16 ga. that is what we us to hook up all our alpine amps to the subs, unless its the 800 watt amp. what amp is it, the mrp-450?

yeah, MRP-M450

I got everything wired up and my amp kicks on, but the subs don't move...I have no clue why...

looks like everything is fine - I'm using a Peripheral P50A for level line output...which I think may be the problem, because when trying to set up the leveling, there's 0 distortion in the audio to go by...at any range. so I'm thinking that box may be bad....

I guess I could wire up the line level adjuster that's built into the amp....just kinda hoping it's an easier solution.

I go 8 Gauge to my amp, 16 gauge to my subs I think.

Are your subs single or dual voice coil. You could have your subs wired wrong. Also check to see if you are getting a input signal to the amp, and also check to make sure you have power at the amp from the battery. I have seen many amps in my time that will kick on the power light only if the ground and remote wire is hooked up, making you think that the amp is on.

I figured it out - the Peripheral box was bad so I just ran wires from my HU back to the channel line inputs on my amp - problem solved.

Subs hit hard as poo! And you can't really hear them from the outside, which is nice because I really don't want to be obnoxious with my bass.
