View Full Version : Slipping clutch at high rpms???

So I was driving yesterday and I gave it some throttle and it seemed like the tires were burning out after 4000rpms (which I've done a lot before). My rpms were climbing, but I didn't feel like I was accelerating like normal. The next stop sign I came to, I ran it through the gears again with the window down and the radio off - it wasn't tire spin - at the end of 2nd and 3rd gear, the rpms jumped like I had disengaged the clutch...very weird. I know most of my power is at high-end, but would my clutch grip like normal in low rpms and start slipping at 4500+?? Seems weird to me - I'd love the excuse to replace my clutch, but as far as timing with money goes, this isn't ideal. lol
Anyone know what's up? Or have any of the other boosted tc's on here had this problem?? Just kinda looking for some guidance I guess.

have you dyno'd your car , ? if so what are on your high end whats your horsepower read out at ?
depending on your turbo size and how hard your pushing it to top out, your stock clutch will not be able to handle the force.
stock clutch is made to handle the power that your car comes with,
when your boosted your clutch is gonna go out much much faster then normal, it cant cling to that kind of power.
i have always been advised by my stepdad and a number of guys that have been fixing up cars since they were 18 that a stage 2 clutch is always recommended when boosting a N/A type vehicle.
at least you've made it this far with out the clutch completely failing on you, i think you need a new clutch and if i were you i'd change it asap, because one day you wont be able to put it in gear at all. and your car will need to be towed.it's happened to 2 people i know with boosted civics.

Stock clutch goes fast, man. Especially when boosted.

i recommend a fidenza flywheel / exedy stage 2 clutch
that will last you long, the fidenza flywheel bonds perfectly with the exedy clutch.

yeah, I'm going for the fidenza, exedy combo - no sense in buying a clutch without a flywheel - might as well do it all while you're there, huh? And with my power goals, I'm going straight for a stage 3 clutch. With the upgraded flywheel, I'll be fine...and if I gotta learn a new clutch, I might as well learn a newer, stronger, more reliable clutch. Don't feel like replacing the clutch again after 300hp.
clutch is working fine now - I guess it just got hot and irritable lol - still gotta go though.
