I have a Escort Passport 7500. waant to get myself the 8500 or the Valentine One. oth are pricey but does not compare to the cheaper ones out there like Bel or cobra.

Cheap ones will have limited range and usefulness compared to the pricier ones.
The 2 best radar detectors out there right now are the Escort Passport X50 8500 and the Valentine V1. I have the Escort 8500 myself and it's GREAT.

If your windows are tinted 5% or darker its a waste of money, learned that the hard way.
I do have a valentine one and prior to tinting the windows It would pick up cops over a MILE away!
DO NOT GO CHEAP on a radar detector it wont do you any good. I highly recommend a new valentine one, get the newest and greatest for the best results and It will bug the hell out of you the first week but after you get it you will love it forever!

my cobra works great always allows enough warning time to slow down i would never spend 400 for a radar detector!

i had an 8500 in my last car, ive got a 9500i in my tC. both are worth the money. and yes tint does lessen the range but thats why you get the one with the best range lol.
and for the record bel is not cheap, bel and escort are made by the same company... :moon:

One of my buddies has a Valentine V1, and speeds everywhere. The only ticket he has gotten since the install of the V1? Breaking the sound ordinance twice.... his system is damn loud!

Sorry but Cobras are a P.O.S. The cops in your area must be retards and leave their radar on at all times. I have been through about 3 prior to the valentine one and I will swear up and down by the difference and so will anyone else using a base model radar detector.
Getting a half ass radar detector is like getting a turbo blow off valve sound modulator.....

I laugh at the people that get them and drive around like crazy thinking its going to save them, or the guy or gal that buys them and then angles them at the sky for "Better Range" What a Joke!

The 1 thing I want to find is external mounts to pick up radar in the front and back. Since I tinted my windows I dont get the best range (compared to before) are there external mounts I can place in my bumper front and rear?

I was not trying to dis you, just saying that they do good if the cop leaves their radar on full time. If you get your windows tinted at 5% then you will need a good one to still work. Mine still works great but I lost about 30% range after the tint job

Do you speed often? Do you drive in the city or freeway more often? Do you take frequent road trips?
Krdshrk
12-11-2007, 11:20 AM
The range will most likely be less.
Yes, they do have integrated radar/laser detectors with front/rear mounts, but they're a lot more expensive than the cheap crap cobras, and a bit more expensive than say the Escort 8500 & Valentine V1

Well the cobra does not offer pop laser which is becoming very popular due to cops new training habits.
Since you do alot of city driving and speeding you might be fine because the cops just leave their radar on full time IF your in heavy traffic. If your always leading the pack speeding like me I HIGHLY advise the V1
The reason is that it does not pick up the radar signal right before he hits you but it picks up the signal when it picks up the radar signal when he hits the pack of cars 3/4 mile ahead of you.
You will pick up the usual x & k band through town, even though cops occasionally use it I ignore it unless it gets above 75% strength then I know its a cop.
But you will also get Ka and Laser warnings which you know for a fact its a cop. They are all very distinctive sounds and after a couple weeks you learn them all and are fine. In 1 3/4 years I have yet to get a ticket after buying this and prior to that I averaged 2-3 speeding tickets a year!

really depends on what you want from your radar detector...we sell radar detectors that range from the 200$ range up to 1500$...radar detectors arent illegal, except in virginia! lol...but anyways, buying a radar detector and how much you drive your car, do u speed a lot, things like that you should take into acct when buying one...Beltronics right now has the best lineup of radar detectors out on the market right now...im actually gonna purchase their RX75 Plus Model....

i have a scion xA and have had 3 speeding tickets
56 in a 40
55 in a 40
86 in a 60
i dont want a radar, i NEED a radar
FamousXb06
12-11-2007, 05:13 PM
with the beltronics rx75 plus it actually comes with a front and laser blocker....soo, if a cop is doing speed traps, it cannot detect your speed....it will let you know on a led display in the car that you are being radar'd...you can then slow to the speed limit...and hit a button that will allow the cops radar to now scan you...and Not going over the speed limit!! :)

I was told its JUST a laser jammer.....
FamousXb06
12-12-2007, 01:38 AM
from what the rep showed and told us....he said its a detector and jammer....i mean u pay 1500 for the peice...i still have some more homework to do on it before i drop that kinda cash for it...but, from a sample video...it blocks a radar signal from checking ur speed...but u have the ability by the push of a button to allow that laser to pick up ur car also...and, it comes with a display letting you know when there is a laser out and about, and also when a laser is being shot at ur car...

Ok just did a little research myself it is a passive laser jammer however it has no ability to jam radar....
No detector to this day can jam radar!
The cool thing is though (so you dont get pulled over anyways) is that you can turn off the passive jammer when you see the cop lasering you once you have slowed down to the allowed speed! I like that option but I dont see the 1500 dollar value.
Keep me up to date on any developments!

I have the Beltronics Vector 975R. It is a remote detector. I have the main unit in my cubby in the center console. That is where the speaker and alert LED's are. The actual radar detector is mounted behind my front bumper, just above the top grille. It came with laser detectors for the front and rear, but I haven't installed those yet (not much laser around here). I have had extremely good luck with the detector. It gives me plenty of warning of upcoming radar. I love the thing. I am not a big speeder, but I do like to know when I am approaching police. That unit was under $400 and works like a charm. I highly recommend it.

Nice unit however how hard is install I was told it takes a professional or is this just B.S.?
THansenite
12-12-2007, 09:44 AM
Its BS. If you can run wires and follow directions, you can install this. All it is, is running wires through the firewall, mounting the units, and plugging everything together. There is a little wiring to tap into a power wire, but if you have done any car audio installs, you will be fine doing this.
FamousXb06
12-12-2007, 10:25 AM
yeah the rx-75 is the only unit i would say have someone install it...unless your familiar with car audio installation...

but with paying the 400 for the valentine its still not gonna work as wwell if you have tints right? thats why it would be better to get one wiht the external mounts for the front and back...?

ONLY if you tint 5% or darker. When I had 20% I had NO noticeable reduction

I plan on getting a Valentine eventually and making a cool custom mount for it. I love my remote Bel unit, but I have heard such great things about the V1.
