Was the Billet Grill ever an OEM option? My dealer doesn't seem to know and Google tries to tell me about barbeque grills. Firestone apparently broke off my billet grill while changing the oil.

Thanks for the info!

There were a few different billet grille options installed at the dealerships. Which one you got depended on what region the car was purchased in.

Looks like you have the very one that I have. I would be interested but the body shop already ordered one as part of the repair. It's going to come to $627 to repair the scratches and repaint the bumper. Firestone asked me to get an estimate but I'm not sure they expected it to be this high. We'll see what they say and I'll get back to you about that grille.

Thanks,

Dr.

my only question is what were they doing to your grill while changing the oil?

That's actually a fantastic question. I can only imagine that they were hosting a dance party on it as the bolts were sheered off.

or they tried to sit up on the bumper, missed and sat on your grill instead

they paying for it correct?

They have said they are going to pay for it - just a question of how much they are going to have to pay. They don't want to pay the full $627 so I guess they are out looking for a second opinion.

So here's an update -

Turns out that Firestone would only pay for a replacement OEM grille not the alleged aftermarket billet grille. It was my understanding that the Toyota Billet Grille was a dealer option but the body shop can't seem to find evidence of that. Nor would Firestone pay to have the bumper they scratched re-painted because one of the bumper brackets was damaged (by me or previous owner). I'm not exactly sure what one has to do with the other.

So now I have a mix-n-match hacked-up look. OEM grille with billet middle and lower pieces and a scratched bumper. Needless to say, I'm pretty irritated.

The moral of this story is this: never let anyone else work on your car if you have the skill to do it yourself. I do and I should have known better.

very true. After market or not they have to replace anything they broke on your car. Raise enough hell and it will get fixed. They pull shit kind of shit because they know most people don't care enough to raise hell.

Spoke to their corporate masters and got the situation mostly resolved. They gave me the option of finding the Toyota Billet Grille in the after market and they'll reimburse me for the cost, shipping, and installation. I wasn't able to get my bumper resprayed but I'm not too fussed about that.

I'm just too busy to spend much more time on this situation. Anyone who thinks professors have their summers off are sooooooo mistaken in my case. If anything, I work MORE now than in the fall or spring.

Thanks for the advice all...

Dr.
