Hey guys. So I just installed my 6000k HIDs and they look awesome. I only have one problem. Are they illegal? They really seem way too bright, I dont know if it is because I am not used to them or they are really just too bright. Do I need to adjust them so they face a little more down to the road? I have the car dropped 2 inches so I'm thinkin that helps some. what do you guys think? Is it just me? Thanks for your inputs

Mine are 6k and people high beam me a lot so go ahead and get used to it. 18 wheelers seem to have a big problem with them on the interstate as well. They turn the spotlight on the back of their cabs on me.

awwww man

Not quite true... it depends on your situation on whether they are legal.

It is illegal to put projector lighting into a reflector housing. (meaning The car has to have come from the factory with projector headlamps for it to be legal) This means doing a HID conversion kit for like an 05 tC style headlamp is illegal.

The other legality aspect that effects HIDs (and any other headlight) is that it has to be aimed within certain specifications depending on the state.

With all this being said, these laws aren't something that are really enforced. So many cars are coming with projector lighting from the factory that it's harder and harder for them to tell.

Going with 6K is probably fine. Any higher and I think you would be risking it.

I appreciate the replies. I do believe that it is because I'm really not used to the HIDs. Even if they are too bright, I'm still not getting rid of them. They are awesome and look great on the car. I have read up on a couple of sites tho that say they may get you a ticket, depending on the cop who pulls you over tho. So...we'll see . I don't drive to much at night so that's a good thing.

I've got 6000k HIDs as well. If people done like them, my motto is "ah, f**k them!" They come standard in a lot of high end cars like BMW, etc. I haven't had anyone high-beam me yet, but my girlfriend has had it happen a couple of times while driving my car. I'd like to have HID high-beams as well (especially for those occasions), but they would be a waste of money...

Some people will flash you too just because you have "blue tinted headlights" and they assume just because they are brighter and not necessarily blinding them anymore than a halogen, then they should flash you just to be douchebags.

I haven't had any problems with my HIDs and I actually have them in the 05 headlights (good thing I'm switching to projectors within a couple weeks here I guess!) and have not been pulled over or even high beamed. I have 5000K ones. The visibility is definitely great, I was paranoid about blinding other people but I guess it doesn't really.

I have 8000K and was following a Sheriff one night and he didn't do anything. I have passed by many cops and I work on a military base without issue. One military cop said he liked them and asked where he could get some.

before i installed my projector housings, i ran 6000K up to 12000K in the stock housings. the trick is to go out with a buddy, have them be an average of 2 car lengths in front of you, then aim the headlights down to where the beam cuts off just below their side mirrors. this way you know you wont blind the shit out of ppl at night. of course, this will vary depending on what type of car other ppl are driving.

if youre running stock housings, then the glare will still be an issue in most cases, but fuck it.

now in projector housings, it has a much cleaner beam cutoff, so they can be aimed easily

True to everything you just posted, I just hate when I'm driving on the way home and everyone and their mom's have lights that blind the F*ck out of my rear view mirror so I just flip it up and problem gone! Till I look in the side view mirrors and I still can't see anything but glare. Also when I'm in front of a car with blinding lights, I mainly use my emergencies for a second to let them pass cause its hella annoying to drive in front of all that glare. Cant wait to get tint and a my dimming rear view mirror. :mrblue:

I've been told in oklahoma aftermarket hid installations are illegal.

I was pulled over by a local cop here in town for them.

So if I went with the 25k's that I want to get for my 2010 XB then I will have issues with the cops stopping me for my head light being to bright? The 25k is the only ones that shine purple and will match my car.

errr 25k?? that doesnt exist

the highest is 12k which is the purple-ish one

HIDs are illegal in every state unless they came from the factory with them aka most new cars these days so most cops dont pull u for it because they cant tell usually if it came like that or not

The 25000K 35W Single Beam Xenon HID Conversion kit will gives you Violet/Purple light output and is deeper colored than the 12000K. It is for people who is looking for the most extreme and most exotic looking light output. This kit has an approximately 2100lm output, which is about 2x the light output of the traditional halogen light. Since it consumes less power than traditional Halogen light bulbs, it gets much longer lasting.

oook....25k tho i bet the actual light output (not the color) is terrible
4500-6k is the best for the amount of light provided

I just want the color purple so it matches my XB. If I could get that at 6k that would be great.

The "k" is Kelvin, its the temp that they burn at. That's what determines what color they are, has nothing to do with brightness. They're all basically 2x brighter then normal halogens meaning they put out 2x the lumens. Ok, now the higher the "k" beyond I think 4500k the less visible light. Where you run into problems is when its raining, foggy, snowing, whatever, the higher the temperature the less visible light, to shine on the road, to help you actually drive. I have 6500k and there is SOME rain fade but its not bad at all. Most companies recommend you do the 6000k or whatever for your dims and if you want your fog lights you go with something in that 4000k range so they actually work. If you have some REALLY purple lights or some other weird color (they even have pink) yea, you may get pulled over and may get a ticket but also, you ain't gonne be able to see sh*t at night and even less then sh*t at night and in the rain so, I'd say get the kit (I got mine from HIDextra, they're about the cheapest and best, I think they're like $60 for a kit now) in a 6500k, that's white light with a blueish tint, and then but some crazy azz color bulbs to use at shows or when you're doing a cruise night or whatever. But, that's just my opinion...if you wanna go all crazy and not see at night, more power to ya...lol

Yeah. I bought the 55w kit and man it was bright to begin with. But now I love them and don't care how bright they are. I don't have anyone who flashes their brights at me or anything like that.

I have had a 55w kit 10000k in a 06 housing. No problems from the popo yet just alot of glare. Need to do a retrofit.

Ive got 6k hid in the headlights and 3k in the fog lights. I get hi beamed all the time, so i try to be courteous and turn my fogs off some time. But the yellow on the ground looks so good. But no 5-0 troubles yet. -mike-

I havent got high beamed either and I had 10000k installed in my 2010 xb. however I got a black line and there are light beams above and below the black line. Is there anyway to adjust the lights so I will not have that black line?
