I am looking to upgrade my suspension to a coilover system and have been eyeballing the TRD kit and the Tein kit, however I wanted to know what your opinions were and the setup that you all have?

I have the Tein ssp's with an EDFC and love it. I haven't heard anything about the TRD ones since they are so new.

That is kinda what I was wondering about. I can get the TRDs for $1100 but the ssp's are only a couple hundred more so ...

Thanks for your input.

I believe the TRDs are rebadged Progress coilovers. Not 100% sure on that though. Don't go with Progress - they rust very easily.

The best: Tein SS-P w/ Pillowball mounts. Even better - add the EDFC.
Middle of the road: H&R Coilovers. Very stiff
Basic: Tein Basic Coilovers
Avoid: Progress CS1 Coilovers

I don't know how good these are:
KW Variant 2
Megan Racing
Tanabe Pro S-OC Type II
Tanabe Pro S-OC

Buy whatever you can afford - DO NOT cheap out on suspension. You will kick yourself in the throat if you do. If you like the TRD, save up $1100 and buy the TRD - the parts are warranted for 12 months...and if they install it at the dealer, you get a 12month labor warranty too.

Tein makes some hot shit, but if you're not running a rally or doing serious track racing, the ssp with edfc seems awfully excessive IMHO.

You can split cost and practicality...buy the good shit, but don't spend more than is necessary for your specific application and driving style. It'd be like putting a 3" titanium exhaust system on an N/A car, or huge Mickey Thompson slicks on a car that runs 15's...yeah they're the best of the best but they're totally useless in those application.

Save yourself a little cash and try to determine what your plans are for the car (actual, attainable plans). Just think ahead, and determine what is actually necessary, performance-wise, you know?

You can even tell us what your plans are for the car, and we can give you insight as to what you need. And don't say turbo unless you actually honestly see it as a very real possibility within the time you own the car. HP and torque are huge factors in what suspension you need, so keep it honest and you'll get the best suspension for your car.

tein ss-p with the edfc all the way.... Chads running my old setup...

Youll love it.. and being able to adjust the dampening is what the edfc is all about...

I mean your looking at just over 1500 for all of that. Its well worth the money!
