Does anyone know if there's any 6 speed that will adapt to the tC?

I talked to Kenny - he said the one they were releasing was from a japanese car (maybe a camry or something? I dunno) - they just had to "modify" it. I don't know how honest he was being, but I know there's a 6spd that will mate to the 2AZ...but it's foreign, and probably costs a ton.
Someone will release one someday I'm sure.

It's a lot of work. Munch looked into it for his tC - he said it was too much work and wasn't worth it.

6-speed is a good idea, because at 80mph, I'm sitting at 4000rpm. Not good, when my shift-point is around 3250-3500...
i agree, i usually shift by listening to the eingine but when im cruisin on the highway it just sounds terrible to me once i get up around 80... sounds like my tC is straining... i hate that sound :(

Has Anyone Tried To Put The Celica Trans In There Car Or Reserched It? Maybe You Can Just Change The Bell Housing And It Might Bolt Up! Just A Thought!

I agree with the dislike on the whole 4000RPMs at 80mph! The only good thing about it is the fact that its got a lil pep to it even in 5th gear. You don't really have to throw it into 4th to get it goin. But the disadvantage is that when you get it up real fast you are like redline real quick and outta gears!! lol

With the gearing of the tC as it is, it should have been a 6 spd car originally. Cruising at 80mph does sound bad at 4000 rpm, but at least we're still getting about 30 mpg. Another thing that the tC would be able to do with 6spd would be, instead of redline limiting at 130mph, you'd be able to go about 150-160! I know this because my friends mustang gt is geared just about like the tC, except with his having overdrive, his car shifts for him redlining at about 125mph back down to 4000rpm...it's really not fair...Not to mention, we'd get about 35-40 mpg... that woukd be a lot more efficient...but since 6spds are a bit pricey, Scion leaves the 5spd in so that they can still use the camry tranny, and leave it priced it at 16k...

if scion was smart i think they should offfer it as an option...ya know for those who want to race it...or just for better mpg...well see what htey do i guess

I think part of the reason we don't have one too is none of the cars with a 2AZ have a 6 speed. They'd have to do all the development, and for a car that's supposed to be extremely budget priced that's a whole lot of research money just poured in.

I believe the MR2 6-speed will work with the tC bellhousing......but they are so damn expensive.

I personally wouldn't spend the money on a 6spd swap.
minimal gain for like $6000 plus a weekend of labor. Fuck it - I'm happy with the 5spd. The RSX-S has a 6spd and it can't go 150mph. not to mention, our cars are electonically limited based on speed. 127mph is only like 5200rpms in 5th. you don't need to go any faster anyway lol

We Cant Take The Governor Off!?!?!

a governor is a mechanical device built into the transmission that is required for a transmission to function properly - you can't just take it off unless you replace it with something - the things to replace it aren't sold off shelves, so they're always one-off peices (unless you own a pre-1985 hot rod). The tC is electronically limited - meaning it's all in the ECU - as far as I know, there's no way to get rid of the limiter with basic piggybacks - you need a standalone ECU to do that....or... GReddy is supposed to be developing a speed limiter cut for certain cars - it hooks up like a regular piggyback and does it's thing.

dude at the shop told me the emanage ultimate cuts the governing off.

thats what i thought, i thought you could map your system up to do pretty much whatever ya want.

Not with a piggyback - I'm using the support tool with my Blue, and there's no speed limiter cut on here - just boost limiter cut. Also, I don't even see anything to change my shift points...so I can't increase redline either.
You can change anything you want if you're using a standalone, but piggybacks don't have that many options. Just fuel, ingition timing, and airflow adjustments. Other features are anti-stall, boost limiter cut, etc.
I could be wrong, but if I am then someone needs to show me where the feature is on my software - I'm using the same software as the ultimate.

I agree, that it can't go 150. However, it does go 143, which is more comprable to what a 6 spd tC would do.

The only time you'd ever go that fast is to see if the car can actually go that fast - Even in a street race, I usually drop out at 110 if I'm winning or not...the race isn't that important to me. I've only taken it to 127 in a race twice - once while racing a brand new BMW 650, and once while racing an s2000. Only because it was so close between me and the 650, and I was trying to see if I could pull away or not...I couldn't, but it was neck and neck the whole race. With the S2K, they can go 150mph, so I was putting as much distance on him as I could to let him know there's no competition - I didn't want to stay with him the whole time and let him pull away at 130mph, so by the time I got to 127, I was 2 1/2 car lengths on him before he started gaining on me and I hit my brakes.
I do just fine without the 6spd...the extra money and labor doesn't seem worth it at all...The only exception would be if you were the first, then it would be badass, but other than that, it's not a useful mod IMO.

Well said. I don't really care if I have a 5 spd or 6 spd, I'm just talking about the "if's", but yeah it really, IMO also, isn't something I'm going to spend my money on...
