View Full Version : Hotchkis sway bar problem.... anyone know about it?
OK I have hotchkis front and rear sways on my 07 tC, and at first the tightest setting ruined my stock end links, which everyone one said NEVER happens, then I got tougher endlinks from Dezod, and the tightest setting ruined one of the TOUGHER ones, and bent the second one, I replaced the first again, and then put the setting on the middle tightness setting to prevent more breaking, but NOW my sway bar is hitting the suspension on both the top AND the bottom! I drive around a corner slowly, or back up and BANG, THUNK, and OMG it sounds terrible!! I have been on the phone with Hotchkis, and the shop that put the sways on, but I haven't been able to resolve the matter!! Does ANYONE know about this issue, or what can or should be done to fix it? PLEASE HELP!!! Oh Also Hotchkis springs I have too, as part of the lowering package..

Is the sway bar connected properly? Sounds like one of the mounts might have broken and come loose.

i have the trd lowering springs and the hotchkis front and rear sway bars. when i go over a bump it makes a squeking sound when it comes down off the bumps and it sounds like shit. i hade my techs and mechanics look at my suspension and they say there is nothing wrong with it but you never know...i dont like them cause it sounds funny, but i have to say they do make my suspension tighter.

I have hotchkis springs and sways. Had them on for over a year now. The first batch of sways in the front were missing stoppers so they would slide.
When did you purchase your sways? Also, are you on stock shocks? And are they blown? Mine blew (due to an accident) and I replaced them with Konis's, but when I was on the blown shocks, the sway would not sit right.

Nope all the mounts are good, just had the car up on the rack yesterday

Hell Yeah they do, the difference between stock rear sways and Hotchkis rear on the tightest setting is like night and DAY

Yes stock shocks, no they are fine, the noise is coming from the sway bars hitting the underside of the suspension! And that knocking problem is still separate from the problem of the sway bar ruining endlinks.

I didn't check if those blocks are on the rear...but the reason why i asked about the shock is not cause I thought the noise was coming from there. I was thinking if your shocks were blown then yoru car is rebounding more then it should which would cause the sways to move more then they should, which could be hitting the underside and ruining your endlinks.
Good luck.

Yeah, Im gonna need good luck! This is an ongoing problem, and NO ONE seems to know what is going on, including the HEAD instillation technician at HOTCHKIS, or anyone in Scikotics... How can this happen? Why isn't my car and sway like everyone else's car and sway? Makes no sense, but all this knocking while I drive literally and totally takes ALL the enjoyment out of driving my car right now, and for the last few months! THUNK....THUNK... BUMP, BUMP... CRASH on every corner and most bumps in the road!! UUGGHHHH!!!!

I still say install problem. Did you have the springs and sways put on at the same time?
If not, have you tried having the shop put the stock sways back in? Or the stock shocks? Did they cut your bumpstops when they installed your springs?

If it's install, then I can't believe it, my mechanic who put the sways on is the owner of his own muffler shop for 20 years, and no, the springs were put on somewhere totally different. Im sure I could have the stock sways put back on, and it may come to that, but the idea makes me sick cause of all the money I spent for Hotchkis, AND all the time and money I've spent trying to fix this problem all this time, not to mention the end links I had to buy! And I don't even know what a bumpstop is, but I was there while he installed the springs, and he didn't mention anything about cutting anything...

My bad...I forgot the Hotchkis comes with new bumstops. I was thinking of the H.Techs I put on for my buddy.
The thing is, the hotchkis sways are not THAT much thicker then the stock sways, at least not enough to cause that much noise and stuff.
Yeah, I did my install myself, so I KNOW how much a pain it is. I just feel so bad for you and want you to get your shit working cause the setup really is the bomb.
Can you see on the sways where they are knocking?

TOTALLY, on the top AND bottom near the curve on BOTH sides up to the place where they bolt to the endlinks you can see the place where the red paint is chipped off. I sent pics to hotchkis and everything before the head hotchkis tech talked to my mechanic while he was under my car trying to figure it out... and yes, the hotchkis sways seem about THREE times as thick as the stock sways.

Is this the front, the back, or both?
Is this the front, the back, or both?
The front is totally fine, no problems there, it's on the tightest setting, just the back...

Hmmm...yeah, the back is LARGE!
so wierd, I have only heard of issues with the front.
what kinda of driving were you doing when the endlinks broke and bent?

NOTHING!!! I haven't even given my car or endlinks or sway bars any real tests yet!!! LOL My car has just 4000 miles on it, and I've NEVER yet given it a "Workout". A few windy roads yes, but nothing anywhere near considered extreme...

damn bro, i feel for you cause i have the same issue as you but its my fronts instead of rears. No one can figure out why it does what it does, my techs at my job are telling me to give it a while and it will all go away but if you been driving like that for months its time to replace the setup.

well, what I meant was, it's not like the stock ones are so tight in there that increasing them by a few millimeeters diameter is going to cause it to rub, ya know?
I mean, I have them. I know they are thicker. I dont' think my point was given properly.
Can we just forget I ever said that  :passedout::loser:
