Okay, I read that the reason Scion used tC instead of xC (like xA, xB, and xD) was because it was taken by the Volvo XC models, is this true?
I also read on Wiki, that "According to Scion, tC stands for Touring Coupe" and when they make the minitruck it will be xP (for pickup) So what does xA, xB, and xD stand for??

That is a very interesting thought?

I did see a court case involving car makers fighting over model names and it was ruled that there could be more than one auto maker that used the same model names. But, I wouldn't want to if I was one.

I would think that the Wiki article was pretty accurate.

I am thinking...

xA = Xtra Awesome

xB = Xtra Boxy

xD = Xtra Deviant

tC = Totally Cool

Well, I read somewhere that tC stands for Touring Coupe (why it was different from xA an xB). This was printed in a Scion mag when Scion was introduced. But, I still don't know what x... stands for, I'd like to know. And what's this xP your talking about??

The xA and the xB were the first Scion models introduced to the US. Normally, the "x" designation stands for an experimental product. Scion was sort of an experiment by Toyota to capture the favor of young adults. The "A" and "B" come from being the first two models. I don't believe Toyota/Scion has ever said that tC stands for anything. To keep with their naming scheme, they wanted the "C", but Volvo already had the XC90 name. Not sure where they got the "t" from, but that is what they went with. They went back to the "x" naming convention with the xD, again, using the next letter because it was the fourth Scion model.

That was never proven.... Just cuz it's on Wikipedia doesn't mean it's correct.

The thing about the Volvo xc90 is true though, I believe.

This sounds most logical from all of the answers Im getting from all of the forums! LOL!

I dunno, I always see people saying tC stands for touring coupe and in mags, some say "Scion's touring coupe blah blah blah", but I have never seen it directly from Scion. If they did officially say it, I would love to know, but I have yet to see it.

This thread made me curious and I started looking for official information on the meanings.

Well, I can not find that, but the biggest consensus I have found seems to point to this:

X = experimental

A = One / First One Made
B = Two / Second One Made
C = Three / Third One Made
D = Fourth / Fourth One Made

Since the xC badging was taken by Volvo, they had to shift gears with the tC naming. Some insist tC stands for Toyota Coupe others say Touring Coupe.

This is all I could find so far!

Radio Edit: I just found my Summer 07 / Issue 10 - Scion Book and on page 44 they are introducing the tC and what do they say...

The first Sports Coupe with Comfortable rear seating...etc, etc

So, I would say they could have used the words touring coupe, but didn't.

Like I said before, i think they called it Touring Coupe in one of the earlier Scion Intro mags.. like 05 or 06.. I cant find my old ones, but I'm frantically searching now. lol

i agree with the A and B... but I was told that it stood for 'Crossover' not for 'experimental'

I'm pretty damn sure the x is for crossover vehicle as well. Look at the xA, xB, and xD--they're all hybrid minivan/SUV/cars lol.

The tC is many things--Turd Coupe, Tiny Car, Total Crap...but most of all TOTALLY COOL! Would make sense that the tC is the new Celica, though, as they put it out of production.

I just wanna know what the tC is getting replaced by, I keep hearing that 08 is the last year for the tC.
