how to remove stock grill??

i have 2009 tC and want to swap out the grills. i've read a few different things online about how to remove the stock grill. some say it just pops out, others say i have to take the whole bumper off and take out some screws. when i looked at it, it looks like it just pops off, but i wasn't sure.

i kno the 05-07 just pop out. i just make a fist and kinda hit it in the corners. im pretty sure the 08+ will pop out too.

thanks. i am hoping it just pops out too cause i actually want to swap it out for a 05-07 grill. i like the honey comb style

You have to take the bumper off :rofl2: j/k, it should just pop right put, just make sure you don't break it trying to take it off. good luck :up:

It depends on if you're planning to take all grilles off or just the top one. I took buth center grilles out, but not the little faux-vents.

With the 08-10s you may need to take the bumper off. I did when I replaced mine. There are numerous little tabs that are pretty easy to just pop off with a screwdriver or something, but then there are two that I had to basically cut off because they are melted onto the grill through the tab holes. I've read that it's Scion's method of security for the grilles not to get stolen...

The 05-07s are just held in by some screws.

im having trouble with this as well. the top for an 09-10 just pops off after you break the melted tabs. but I'm having trouble with the lower, I'd rather not remove the bumper cover, does it just pop off with force or are there special clips holding the lower grill in place? (asking about 08-10 models)

If I remember correctly, this one just pops off, but you have to pop a couple tabs at a time in order to get it moving because this one is pretty rigid.

just did it before i read your reply lol. you have to pop a few of the top off first. just push it back hard as hell. then the rest will go. but yeah dont be gentle. use a lot of constant pressure to get it off.
used a knock-off vrd from ebay. perfect fitment. on an 09 tC
