It all depends on what output your trying to get out of this.. if your looking for a little more power.. go TRD Supercharger.. 9.5psi i believe is the boost.. or you can go turbo and pay the extra money and could be putting out anywhere from 245+ whp depending on tune and internals. Stock tC internals I believe can put out a max of 300hp. So a turbo around 7-10psi tuned your looking a little below 300whp on stock internals. Hope this helps.

You can find used TRD Superchargers on ebay sometimes and they're somewhat reasonably priced. The problem is that they are typically missing parts...
I would go turbo all the way. IMO, they sound amazing with the blowoff and they will produce more power than the TRD S/C after they wind up. That's the only downside to a turbo other than price in this case, they don't have the power off the line. There is a turbo lag that takes a second to wind up and cram the air down the engine's throat, whereas the S/C is constantly cramming air.

Smaller turbos have less lag, but don't make as much power. Anyone remember the turbo that Tony had on his RS1? Mitsubishi 16G big?
Also, stock boost on the TRD SC is 7, but a popular mod was 9.5 and 12 psi pulleys. But that causes a problem. The bearings on the shaft aren't designed to spin that fast, causing them to wear out fast.

I also read that they changed the S/C for 07 and 08 to be tamper proof somehow. 12 PSI is pushing it hard because I think 10 PSI is the most amount of boost, safely.

I think they always had some strange bolt or locking bolt so you couldn't do it at home. Unless you had a hook up...
