If you use vinyl you might have to strip the material that is on them off..depends on the vinyl ..how strechy it is..if you go with another material you can just cover over what you have like I did Jyl's..Their is a fabric place down off of Utica that I use or you can find some stuff at Hankcock fabrics.

Awesome, i'll probably use different fabric than. did you use any adhesive for it? and did you take the door off to do it?

Yeah..I've got the adhesive..well some anyway...and you just have to take the door panels off..I assume you are talking about just the cloth inserts on the panels..right.

I used leather for my door panel inserts. They are kind of a bitch to do. It took me 3 tries with different adhesives to finally find one that worked. I used Sobo from Wal-Mart. The stuff is holding great.

Cant get the adhesive from Hancock..you have to get it at a material or upholstery store its like 22.00 a can, I have about 1 1/2 cans left.

Id suggest just stripping the material there no matter what...the tc doors are pretty easy... I just cut the tabs on the back removed the insert,, then ut some small screws back in to replace the plastic welds...

I used this in my truck when I had it and it held for about 6 months or so. The stuff I get now is the same stuff that the guys uses that does upholstery for a living..its expensive but you get what you pay for.

Curious to know which adhesive you guys used?
I used some spray crap but it didnt hold long.. Then I got some contact cement... Works great from the plastic to fabric.. but not fabric to fabric.

the factory stuff is held on with adhesive also..the stuff i use is 3M Super Trim adhesive (yellow) part # 08090
Wal-Mart sells a similar adhesive but its not as good but it is 3M..I learned this the hard way..

Nope, I removed the stock fabric. The fabric pulls right off, but there is a foam layer behind it that is glued to the panel. I spent lots of time sanding to get all the excess foam and leftover glue off before putting the leather on. The leather I got was fairly stiff which probably complicated things more than a good material would, but it was free. haha
The key is taking your time and making sure the adhesive is distributed over the entire panel and material. I put the Sobo adhesive on both pieces, spread it out with a foam brush, pressed the leather onto the panel, pulled it off so that it would become tacky, then carefully, put it back on getting all (most) of the bubbles out.
Been going most of the summer with them in and it seems to be holding well.

Yea, I tried using the spray on 3M MT-90 (I think that is the name of it) from Wal-Mart. Didn't work well at all. Held ok right away, but after a week, I had several bubbles where the leather was letting go from the panels.

thats why i want to try the fabric first than the leather

It helps if the fabric that you pick has got a little " stretch" to it.

kinda spandex like? how much did you guys need for just the panels?
BATComm1
10-10-2007, 12:13 PM
Not really like spandex..just with a little give..if you grab like a t-shirt and pull on it..give like that.
