Anyone have any opinions/reviews of the Flik Justice from Edge Racing (www.edgeracing.com)? (http://www.edgeracing.com%29/?)

I have a BSP tC and I want to get the Flik Justice 17x8's but can't find many reviews(what I have found have been good ones though)

i was actually very impressed with my old Fliks. i had the silver 18x8.5 Arctic's for my old jetta. good price with the tire bundle, and fast shipping. the total came out to $1007 shipped to my doorstep within 4 days.

i would recommend them

I went to order the Flik Justice in gunmetal... they don't fit tC's without a custom made hub spacer because the rim is made for VW's specifically... I ended up going with a Flik Ftd (Titanium) instead....

Thanks for the reviews... can't wait to get these on the car!

Whoah I missed htis thread yesterday. Crap.

Don't go with the FTD's in 17x8 unless you're only putting on a 225 size tire. 245's will rub with that offset (+35) - it's too far pushed out.

Other than that, Flik wheels are of decent quality. I have the Hornets in 17x7 +35. They look flush as heck. 17x8 +35 i think will be too pushed out. It'll fit if you only run 225/45R17 tires, but 245/40R17 will rub.

For now I'm gonna have my stock tires stretched ... 215 45 R17.... but when I get new tires I'll get 225 40 R17's

Go with 225/45R17 - more proper fit, won't throw off your speedo nearly as much as 225/40.

That won't rub? (I have Hotchkis drop) that was an issue I had with my last rims...... HATE RUBBING!!

Krdshrk

There's the possibility of rubbing because of the offset of the wheels. They're too far pushed out... To be honest i'd cancel the order if I were you and get 17x7 wheels with +35 offset.

I don't rub with 225/45R17 Tires and 17x7 +35 Flik Hornets. 17x8's are an inch wider and the same offset which means it's pushed out even more. It's close on mine with the TRD Drop (very low TRD Drop).

I'm not seeing how 1 inch farther out will make that big of a difference...

I checked an offset calc... I'll have 3mm less inside the tire and 23mm less outside.... 23mm = .905 inches... I can't see how thats going to rub.(but may eat my own words)

I feel like a geek having to bust out online calcs

As far as tire sizes... in a 225 40R17...
The 40 is a % of the total tire width. If you get wider tires... to keep the overall diameter close to the same you have to drop your sidewall size... a 225 40R17 is closer in overall diameter to a 215 45R17 than a 225 45R17.

I used tirerack to verify... but I couldn't use these tire sizes... had to bump it to 215 45R18 / 225 40R18 / and 225 45R18 and I used Bridgestone Blizzak tires to verify(so they were the same across the board)

in this case the 225 45's were 1 inch bigger... the 225 40's were .5.... so we're talking a whopping half inch....

BTW Nick I hate you for taking advantage of my paranoia and OCD and making me research this... just so you know...

LOL. Research is good!

Look at this page:
http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html

About 1/3 the way down there's the Tyre size calculator (Tyre is the british way of saying it.. lol).

215/45R17 -> 225/40R17 = -42.42mm circumference or -2.16% When the speedo reads 70 MPH, You'll be doing 68.49 MPH.

215/45R17 -> 225/45R17 = +28.27mm circumference or +1.44%. When the speedo reads 70 MPH, You'll be doing 71.01 MPH.

1 MPH fast isn't bad. It's less of a percentage of size change.

I dunno... makes no sense to me because according to www.tirerack.com a 225 40R17 is closer to the diameter of a 215 45R17 than a 225 45R17.....

My brain is going to explode....:wallb:

I don't trust tirerack's calculations. I trust the calculations that the tyre bible gives. Trust me - I did my research :)

I've clocked myself on speed radar traps that show you the speed. I'm about right on my speedo (it's clocked a little fast anyway).

depending on clearance..... I might get a 235 40R17........ its even CLOSER(-.88 ) as per your bible which I have bookmarked now

and as they say... wider is better....

Krdshrk

Go for it, but good luck trying to find 235 size tires though - that's not a common size.

it'll be a few months before I get new tires... until then I'll run the 215 45R17's on my 17x8's rubber band style!

Thanks for the info though... it was kinda fun researching it all.

Yeah 215's on a 17x8 are kind of a dangerous stretch. Be careful.

Nick knows what he is saying...I would cancel and reorder.

I'm not reordering.

I did take his advice though and ordered some 225 45R17 Toyo Proxies to go on the new rims rather than stretchin some 215's

I just hope it'll clear without rubbing. I really honestly don't have much gap space with my wheel/tire combo... we'll just have to see i guess.

Looks good! Glad you're not having rubbing issues (yet! lol ;) )

The hotchkis springs you have don't lower your car as much as mine.

How much clearance do you have? Have you tried turning the wheels all the way to full stop?

Lunchbox
10-08-2007, 11:27 PM
Yeah... they clear... hit some speedbumps at like 30mph and no scrubbin... got on a twisty back roads and had no rubbing... I like it!

My hotchkis are lower than my TRD were... they ride better too...I suspect those pics being taken on the curb makes it look a little higher than it really is. My springs have been settled by now... so I think I'll be good =D

Seeing Scikotics members help one another out with advice to keep their rides the best possible makes me feel all fuzzy inside and a little teary eyed.
