Tried 5 tools, did not come off. I have never seen such an awful car to change the filter in.
So I got a question for yall. Is it bad to go another 5k miles on my old oil filter? I run 0w20

I forgot his screen name but i think hes only on scionlife. hes even going to try up to 12k because his oil was still good. But I think if your running synthetic.
Per Toyota Tech info, the tools required for an oil change are a 24mm and a 27mm deep well socket. One is for the drain plug, the other to remove the cartridge assembly for the oil filter. The pics just show going right onto the nut on the end of the oil filter assembly. You could skip the change, but eventually you will want to figure this one out.

TL,
Look at the Cartridge cap carefully, There is a LOCKING TAB on the metal part that might be preventing the cap from un-screwing. I had to bend mine out so that the cap could be removed. You might have the same scenario as I did . . . .:Coucou11:

OK changed mine a few months ago. I have the adjustable oil filter remover. Trust me not the best to use. should get right size. Anyways.
There is a small metal tab that has to be push down when you turn the first few times. it like locking safety. Once you get it turned a few times the tabs on the filter cap/holder should clear the metal tab just keep turning until it comes off.
Once off remove old filter insert and old O-Ring. New filter should have come with new O-ring. put filter in. then lightly oil the O-ring and place on plastic filter holder/cap. Be careful not to stretch it. It should slide on easily though. then replace plastic cap with filter in it back on car.
I don't know what Pin you are talking about.

Well I'll tell you this the adjustable filter wrench works fine and will not damage the filter cartridge case. I bought a 64mm filter wrench which is the size Scion says to use and that shit didnt work at all so I brought it back to Pep Boys where I seen the adjustable filter wrench. It has three arms that are black with red rubber caps on the ends. Just apply steady pressure until the cap starts to turn. You dont have to bend the tab out the way. Here is a helpful tip I wish someone would have experienced and shared with me so I didnt have to lol. HOLD THE DAMN FILTER WRENCH WITH YOUR HAND. I was using a open top drain pan and mine came off the wratchet and fell in the drain pan covering my face in used motor oil. I've changed mine twice now myself for about $25 using 0w30 full synthetic pennzoil oil. It takes all of about 10 mins once the front of the cars in the air and 5 of thats just letting the oil drain. If you need any help shoot me a pm and give me your number and I'll help you out.

just wanna mention, the xd calls for 5w20 or 0w20. the new xds are coming with 0w20 synthetic and the mannual now says the oil is good for 10;000 miles between changes. also make sure you get a new oil pan washer, they're not meant to be reused.
