View Full Version : Choice of jet-hot coating for a header...if I'm S/C'ed

Hey everyone,

While my tC isn't very modified yet in terms of performance (just a CAI, which is mostly a shiny noise maker anyways,) I'm always thinking about what I'd like to do "eventually." My next steps will proabably be a header and exhaust, and then ideally, I'd like to install the supercharger down the road. In preperation for that, I'm strongly considering getting my header jet-hot coated, whenever I purchase it. The decision is, to go for regular sterling or the sterling extreme? Obviously the extreme is rated for higher temperatures, but does anyone know if the higher rating is necessary for a supercharged setup? (ie, will the regular sterling blister and fail because the exhaust temps will be too high?) Would the step-up be worth the extra cost?

And before anyone says "just turbo the damn thing," believe me, I'd greatly prefer a nice turbo setup. However, to be realisitic, I don't think I'd have the money to drop all at once on a well-done turbo install. At least with the supercharger, it's cheaper and if I want to take a step-by-step approach (by upgrading the header,) I can stretch the costs out a bit. Otherwise, my wife would probably make me sleep out the shed for a month :fu:

Hell, even if I never get the charger and just end up with the header, at least the jet-hot will be helping my under-hood temps :)

Thanks everyone.

Just go with the Jet-Hot regular Sterling (Jet Hot 1300). Sterling extreme only goes 100 degrees higher. No real point in bothering and spending the extra money.

Sounds good to me.

Plus - if your EGT's get that high, you're screwed anyway lol

Haha ok- I guess that's what I was really curious about, I didn't know how hot the EGT's could get on our cars with forced induction. I seem to remember reading that jet-hot recommended the ultimate for forced induction, but they may have meant insane funny car stuff, or for cars with larger engines :mrviolet:
