Am kinda new to doing new diy stuff so be nice !! Planning on doing my brake pads cause at 60K they need changing and are starting to squeak. Now, do I need anything special to do this? A friend of mine has offered his assistance so we can cover the beer and the pads. Do i need any other special tools though.? Also I am gonna do my plugs for first time and I have the new plugs but GEEZ those old ones are a long ways down there!!! Anything special for getting them out of that tunnel? I am used to old school just reach down and grab with fingers but these are at the bottom of a paper towel tube? Any advice or just grab a magnet and lift out... Thanks for time and response!

A C-clamp is all you should need "special" for the brakes. It comes in handy pushing the piston back in so the new pads fit around the disc.
As far as the spark plugs I'm no help, I've never changed mine.

I'm pretty sure your going to need a very long spark plug socket or a regular spark plug socket with an extension and a ratchet. turn counter clockwise and they should come out. I'm not sure of the size though. maybe 3/4 of an inch but not 100% sure on that. I'll find out though.

Eric I have the Wrench and I now know that you can use a magnet to attract the plug to pull it up out of cylinder! Thanks Guys! was not sure on the C Clamp, thanks Guys!!

No problem, and I made a mistake on the size of the socket. I just checked mine and its 5/8. :mro:

i dont have an xb but i just did my fiances brakes on her tc. all i needed was a 6 inch c clamp and that goowie stuff you apply in the back of the brake cover.
are you plugs bad?? only reason i ask is because the 2.4l plugs dont need to be changed until 100k. only on the 1st gen xb i belive plugs need to be changed at either 30k or 60k.

I was wondering the same thing as to why change them now but there is always the possibility he is putting high performance plugs. but I can be wrong. lol
The oem spark plugs are good for 100k

I got ya! Just figured it would be a good time to put in a new set since doing a mini maintenance program! Brakes Oil and put in new plugs while at it! Not used to 100 k plugs!!
Thanks for Info!

If you wait til 100k , even if your putting 20k a year, thats 5 years on the plugs. The longer those plugs are in the harder they will be to get out. I use a spark plug socket on an extension to reach the plugs . My socket has a rubber boot in it that will grip a plug. If i need to i also have one of those reach things that has wire jaws that open up when you sqeeze the grip. Use antiseize on the threads of the new plugs so that you can remove them easy next time you change out . Finger tighten the plug and then a half turn with the socket should be good.
